The Streets

Just heard this album.

Are The Streets/ Mike Skinner percieved as Chavvy music or is it taken seriously in the U.K?
He looks Chavlike, and the whole cockney/Brum accent thing could go either way.

hmm, maybe I just don't get this. The queen is the subject of the national anthem. Is Mike Skinner the subject of Chavs?

As much as I stayed away from it, I eventually listened and really liked Original Pirate Material. I think Skinner's actually a lot smarter than he's given credit for and the deep bass lines combined with infectious lyrics make it very listenable.

Not so sure about the second album but I wouldn't be too surprised if it will grow from nothing liek the first one did.

OPM is superb and I thought the second album was totally pants compared to it. How you can go from upbeat summer anthems to slow, dreary ballards is beyond me.

I don't care if he is a Chav or not, both albums (although quite different from one another) are the most innovative and exciting to be released in recent years and the man is a genius.

Thats exactly was i thought of the two. OPM was fantastic, one of the best debut albums ive ever heard. A Grand Dont Come For Free is a good album, but no where near as good as OPM.

Is it Chav music? Couldn't give a toss if it is or isn't to be honest.

To be honest the streets is miles better than the musical guff that we have to put up with from America. Not only that but unlike most music nowadays, you can actually understand the lycrics in his songs.

I find The Streets a breath of fresh air!
OPM was great with it's catchy tunes and deep bass line, A Grand Dont Come for Free is a fine album with some classic lines a funny story attached.

The man is a genius!

Who else could think of a line such as ' I saw a thing on ITV the week '?
Classic stuff!

Blimey we agree on something.

Just got the Killers and the Ordinary Boys CDs, both have some good tracks on but nothing as good as anything on GLC

'Andy, you're a star' is a cracking song. I love it.

And the GLC, the album is awesome, Self-suicide, Half Man-Half Machine, Soap Bar and Roller Disco are just great songs and so funny too.

'Andy, you're a star'

Cheers!

Soap-Bar is ace, love the sample in the background...

Mind, they have pretty much died a death. Wonder if they will bother with another albumn?

well, they'll have to re-release some of their older stuff. There's an album somewhere where Ice T introduces them.

apparently, my cousin knows one of their roadies and the tour isn't selling as well as it should do...

Does your cousin know things that you don't ?

The Killers and Ordinary Boys getting compared to the GLC. Blimey. Bet that must hurt the 2 proper bands.

Mind you, i haven't heard the GLC's album but i suspect its a little less serious than the 2 mentioned beforehand.

I dont think the GLC will last long. A little like NERD ...

hahaha. NERD are charging $250,000 to produce, and theyve got plenty in the pipeline. No comparison to GLC.

GLC you can't compare to anyone at the moment- who wants serious music anyway? I reckon theyve got another album in them.

Was raving about the Killers album a little while ago but I may have listened to it a bit too much.

Currently, Bloc Party's on the go (largely due to one of the songs being John Peel's top rated tune from the year) and it's not too bad at all. Need to give it more of a listen though I think.

Right, just a couple of questions, in recent weeks I've seen Razorlight's album at £9.99 and GLC's album at £8.99 are they both worth getting? And whats the best of the two?
