The album that pretty much invented indie music as we know it today v probably the least important album of the Beatles later years (with the exception of Let it Be)? No contest.

I wish I had longer to put forward the case for the Roses but I've got to go to work but I'll just say this:

For 45 minutes of Indie perfection...Vote Stone Roses!!

The Stone Roses were the most legendary band of the late 1980s. They changed British pop by putting a cool street band back into the mainstream; they made pop and guitars cool again. (Jon Robb)

Rarely has a band and an album come along and made critics and fans turn their heads. It defines an era in British musical history, where before there was the saccharine pop of Kylie & Jason. Spike Island is given the same reverence as The Sex Pistols at the 100 clubs, a heady time where rock and dance fused with absolute perfection.

The Stone Roses debut is a blend of exquisite tastes. Hear, in these grooves, distant echoes of George Clinton, Gram Parsons, Augustus Pablo, John Mayall, Slaughter and the Dogs, The Clash, The Seeds, Simon and Garfunkel and a myriad of other influences from four distinctly different members.

What they became, and what the influenced may be dubious, but in late 1989, with a clutch of awards, legendary TV appearances on the Late Show, and Top Of The Pops, The Stone Roses defined a moment of pop history.

The album has lost none of its magic over time - it is timeless and virtually peerless. Always in the top 10 of Greatest Album lists, vote The Stone Roses.

Wow, just four posts on this thread? Really? This is the toughest round for me by a million miles.

So, we have the Stone Roses who's album in 89 made me swagger around in my baggies like a loon at Southend Tech. Every facet of my life in that period is soundtracked by this album. Absolutely an integral part of me.

Secondly Abbey Road, I got into this album during the summer of '92. I needed to step back from the raving and I got into this, by accident to be honest but from the first time I heard I adored it. My mate, who was a bit of a reprobate stole it from Shenfield Library in the days of cassettes and no security. Its stayed with me ever since, heady days sat in the back garden with a beer a continental cigarette and this on. This was the soundtrack of summer of 92 along with the Barcelona Olympics. Truly great times.

To the voting, in terms of musical content I adore Abbey Road but in terms of absolute nailed on 100% impact on my life I have vote to Stone Roses.

I'm going to have to say- go with your hearts on this one. I can't say anything to the detriment of The Stone Roses and of course The Beatles are my favourite band of all time.

A true clash of the titans!

Over 70% of the Vote going to TSR...........not as much of a clash of the titans as we all first thought it might be!!

Well done Paul

'Something' is ''the finest love song ever'' (Frank Sinatra). Where is that 'I just don't get (all the hype)' thread so I can put TSR in it?

Paul's a good mate, but I had to go with Abbey Road - sorry Paul, not that I think my vote will make much difference here now.

Dunno, but I'd like to thank everyone who voted for Manchester's finest. Lets keep this up and give the dinosaurs a good run for their money :)

Remember a vote for the Roses is a vote for YOUTH!
