We completely outclassed Dagenham, and i mean really outclassed them for a good hour or so. Then we completely lost it.
Being completely honest, Griemink doesn't inspire confidence and if Flahavan had've done what he did for the 2nd goal, then he'd have absolutely been slaughtered on here for quite a while. Barrett was completely done by the pace and movement by Boot when he came on, so we better be worried if he comes up against someone with the same ability in the league this year. Nicolau seems to have adopted the launch it and see tactic, as that's what he spent most of the game doing, with the exception of a lovely slide rule ball that led to Gray's 1st goal.
As for the positives, the first half side did extremely well. Drewe was outstanding and thoroughly deserved his goal. Dudfield ran his socks off, and Gower caused havoc. Corbett created 2 or 3 chances for himself out of nothing and was unlucky not to get at least 1 goal.
Ratings:
Flahavan 6: Had nothing to do. His communication was extremely impressive though. Came off at half time.
Williams 7: Sometimes shaky in possession, but overall he did alright. Came off at half time.
Edwards 8: Solid, reliable and hardly put a foot wrong. He's going to be very important this year. Came off at half time.
Hunt 7: Played the full game, and looked far more comfortable with Edwards next to him than he did with Barrett.
Wilson 7: Played far better at left back in the 1st half than he did in central midfield in the 2nd. Seems to have improved since last year.
Kightly 6: Played the full 90 and ran his socks off. Same story as many of the others as he looked far better in the 1st half than he did in the 2nd. Had a good understanding with Williams.
Maher 5: Played the full 90 and looked well off the pace again. Not helped by one bloke who I had the mispleasure of standing next to telling him he was the worst player on the pitch when he came over to take a corner. and then deciding to shout obscenities at him at every moment he had. He even declared he was the worst player ever to play for the club. Where do we get these idiots from!?
Corbett 7: Not a central midfielder clearly, but he got stuck in and as I said earlier he created opportunites out of nothing. Came off at half time.
Gower 7: Great 1st half, not so good in the 2nd. He seems to be starting to get over his operation though.
Broughton 8: Very impressive. Good finish for his goal and brought others into play nearly everytime he got the ball. Probably my M.O.M. Came off at half time.
Dudfield 7: Should've had at least 1 goal but it was an encouraging performance. Came off at half time.
Subs:
Griemink 6: One good save with his feet but should've cut out the cross for their 2nd goal. Flahavan is pushing him very hard for the No1 shirt.
Jupp 6: Forced off with 10 or so minutes to go with an injury. Not a bad performance up until then though.
Barrett 6: Boot coming on made the difference in this game as it exposed Barrett's lack of speed. He did make 2 or 3 very impressive charging runs though.
Nicolau 6: Not bad, not great though.
Gray 7: Scored 2 and played very well until Dagenham came back into it when he completely disappeared.
Bramble 7: Put himself about no end and caused lots of problems. Got flattened by Roberts for Gray's 2nd as well.
Tilson 6: Tried to calm things down in the last 10 minutes, shame the others didn't respond.
