Suffolk Shrimper In Dorset
Director⭐⭐🦐
Cannot quite face the trip up to Carlisle this Saturday?
But still at a loss re what to do (and we cannot rely on Blues World)?
Well, the real alternative option is here.
At 3.00 pm this Saturday 6 September in the Deanery Gardens in Hadleigh, Suffolk, SHRIMPER THE DOG is going for a hatrick.
In two out of the last three years he has won 'waggiest tail' at the annual Deanery Garden fete. This time round he aims to make it three and keep the trophy for ever.
In 2006 we had a bit of a shock as a dalmation none of the yokels had seen before sneaked a dubious victory we think due to judge bribery (with some alledged inappropriate link to the 'straightest runner bean' comp where the outcome was decidely odd). Investigations showed illegal paperwork and the owner (under the name of an Arab consortium) was hounded out of town.
Last year though Shrimper was back to true form on an even playing field, playing a real blinder in a game of two halves as thankfully he failed again in 'dog most like owner' but came storming home in extra time in his favoured waggy tail event.
Training this year has been tough. Every time we say 'Southend 1 Man U 0' Shrimper gets very excited and tail wags furiously, though expectation of a bonio may have some influence.
There is a new comp this year too: 'best trick'. Training on this has been tricky but the broad theme is that every time we say 'Premiership player' he dives to the ground and rolls over. Again the rewards help. but I think we might be on to a winner here - two first place rosets would really be a a rare event and only bettered by Bernard Basset in 1893 who romped home with all six awards on a day they still talk about here in these parts.
So, still a little fed up after Tuesday (and Saturday.....and eight days before that....and Cheltenham)? Petrol costs up to Cumbria a tad on the 'too steep' side? Want to restore faith and have something to cheer about instead in the Shrimper name?
It would be good to have a big crowd of Southend fans at the Deanery Gardens this Saturday. I am sure a section could be set aside for The Blue Voice. It's 20p on the gate, kids are free.
UTB:)
