The ref on Friday

I was at the Thurrock Vs Oldham Cup game last week and he was the fourth official. The announcer, when saying who the officials were finished by saying "and the fourth official, the one and only Joe Ross" before laughing into the microphone. He even caused controversy there as the Thurrock manager accused him of being 'pally' with Brian Talbot and giving preferential treatment to the Oldham bench and management team.

I suppose it's a blessing that Maher won't be playing with that buffoon in charge though.

Fan f**king tastic.

Apparently Bradford are trying to make sure he never refs a Bradford match again after he taunted Dean Windass before sending him off in their 4-0 defeat by Luton the other week. Can't we do the same because he truly is one of the worst refs I've had the pleasure of watching.

Lets hope he turns on Grimsby then. All to often i see games decided by officials, (especially at this level), and am left wondering if they all sit down at the start of a season, and decide who is going to win the league!!

Some of the poor decision, have a huge influence on the outcome of games. Like wycombes first offside goal, and many others. i spose it works both ways equally, but it really doesnt seem to for us, not over the last 5-6 years anyway. However i may be a little tiny bit biased though!

This is seriously worrying - he is one of the most inept officials around. Didn't he send someone off against Luton the other year - Broughton? Rawle? Can't quite remember other than he was hopeless.

At Luton in the league a bit ago Rawle was sent off, but I think that was Uriah Rennie (sp?).

No, that was Joe Ross. I still have bad memories of that day - possibly the worst display of refereeing I've ever seen. Apart from sending off Rawle, he also booked about five other Blues players for completely inocuous challenges. Leon Johnson got a yellow simply for 'climbing' on an opponent.

Shouldn't have been climbing on an opponent then should he

Oh bugger. The feeling of looking forward to Friday has dissappeared in an instant. Without doubt the worst referee in the league and possibly the whole of football (I include Sunday league football in this). Just the thought of his "performance" at Luton drives me into a rage.

And it's not just us who have suffered at his hands, it's almost a weekly occurence - just ask Dean Windass or Burgess of Rochadale (not only a penalty awarded against him at Northampton a couple of weeks ago for the cleanest tackle you've ever seen but a straight red despite it not being even close to a goal scoring chance).

The guy has no understanding of football, how he become a football league ref is beyond me.

Possibly because it would be "Politically Incorrect" for him not to be allowed to be a referee.

Joe Ross is a crap referee and I was at that Luton game as well.

Although IIRC he was booking our players left right and centre Rawle did a rolling karate kick that wouldn't have looked out of place in the WWE so his red card was hardly unjust on that day.

Useless bit of Joe Ross trivia - I seem to recall he was the flag holder for one of the lesser known caribbean nations at the commonwealth games a couple of years back.

Indeed, didn't want to be the one who said it as I wouldn't have phrased it as "politically correctly"

And did not Mark Wright have to resign as manager of Oxford after yet another hopelessly inept performance by the sainted Mr Ross.  In his post match comments Wright IIRC called him something similar to a "useless green w*nker".  The word's at either end weren't the problem, but unfortunately the middle word was.  Cab for Mr Wright!

Is it out of order to give a referee abuse in the Greek tongue , based on the thought he may not be able to either understand , or be able to get his tongue round, a little Greek himself ?

What about a bit of Spanish?

"Hoy usted está en negro. Mañana esto será su familia."

Probably not very PC for Mr Ross. But I was at that Luton game as well and, well, I better not say anymore!

Found some sad stats on www.soccerbase.com

- Mr Ross has ref'd three Southend games

- in each he has sent off one player

- his average yellow card count in those games is 4.3

- he reserves some of his worst performances for us - his card count in all games since he started is 3.1 per game, for our games it is 5.3

oh joy
