Like most passionate fans supporting their own team, we tend to be blinkered, into our players/managers ability. Whilst many on here might think such and such is "class" etc etc, the reality is that most of southends players , are really players plying their trade in the lower leagues or worse non league, scrapping around for contracts at middle table bottom division teams, players leaving us recently tend to go to other struggling teams in our division or worse. Which really shows you were we are?? we got out of this division which was a strong division at the time, with a good team, going places. None of the current crop of players really have that star quality that is going to the earn a chance to play say in league 1 or even the championship, but you see other ppl can see it, other than the blind fans amongst us. As for sturrock, he by thought word and deed, is now clearly one of the ex managers that got lucky and was re-employed at a struggling club. To me he is just dead wood, and scrambling around, using all his ex players to put together a side, he doesnt inspire any excitement in the fans, and the crowds are indicating this?? I expect we will win 1 this week and draw 1, and all of you will get a little stiffy on, and then we go away and lose 1 , and this is how we will trudge along. We need a spark, to get things moving, be it, change of manager/change of chairman directors/change of players, If all 3 happened then we might just get that stiffy back collectively

I have to disagree, Sturrock has put together a very capable squad for this level. For one reason or another (and injuries to key players is a big factor I believe) it hasn't quite clicked yet but I have no doubt that it will and I'd be surprised if a squad with players such as we have finishes outside the top 7 in this very mediocre division.

I find myself agreeing with you yet again and again would add that we need a little bit of luck in all issues

I understand what you are saying, but disagree- yIf I understand you , you don't think ANY of our players are good enough to play in league 1- don't be ridiculous. I can't be bothered to explain why as you are clearly as blinkered as you accuse others of being.

Do we need a spark- yes of course we do , but we are hardly the only team in that position.
If we play like apparently we did on Saturday on a regular basis then I will conceed you will have a point. If on the other hand we play like we did for most of the previous Saturday (withour I remind you Corr, Dickinson, Harris, Sawyer) then we will do well IMO

so now its about luck rather than ability?? if thats your outlook thats fine, these players weariing the shrimpers shirt, hardly setting the world alight, this is a really really poor division with some shocking sides and we are sturggling in it?? look at morecambe, what do you reckon they have?? team spirit?? good players?? management and fans working as one??
btw on crowds of 2,000 this is the team that ron martin ridiculed so much last season

Erm no it's predominantly about ability, and if you read my earlier thread you'll realise that unlike you I actually believe we have plenty of ability in this squad - in my opinion given a bit of luck on the injury front I'll stick my neck out and say we have enough ability to get out of this division.

I am not sure but I think you will find that Neil Harris was offered another/extention to his Millwall contract, and I think Liam dickinson had interest from league 1 clubs. Both for differing reasons chose us and Paul Sturrock.

What I don't understand is how your first post on this thread was fairly well punctuated and yet here you seem to have reverted to type. Was the first post ghost written for you?

As it goes, I think you have to accept that RM isn't going anywhere, and that Sturrock clearly feels he has a job to do and a reputation to keep. If he can give the players the kind of rollocking they deserve for their **** poor performance the other day then maybe he might yet convince you that he IS the man for the job.

The sooner Sturrock stops messing around with mohsni and plays him where he belongs,at centre back, the sooner we can settle into sime sort of rythm and start climbing the table . We have more than enough ability in this squad to walk this division , you cant tell me that Hall , Ferdinand , Barker , Sawyer , Harris , Dickinson, Grant and Mohsni are not all capable of playing at a higher level . Next year they will be , WITH SUFC !

The zone today is like deja vu all over again.
Instead of having a small group of posters who secretly enjoyed every bad performance in the Tilly era as it meant they could rant against him and call for his head, we now have a small group who do exactly the same to Paul Sturrock
I think I'm going to develop an irrational blinkered dislike of whichever poor mug gets the job next.

But Mohsni can't play at CB because we need him up front, we have NO strikers!

Wickfordtilly, I don't want to accuse but are you secretly birdseye? I only ask because he stopped posting then a week later you make your account and your views are similar, sorry if I'm wrong just wondering if you could clarify? Anyway to answer your post sturrock has been successful in more than one club so I'd hardly call that lucky. Also our first team is very good, but I have to agree with one expert I read pre season saying that although we have a good first 11, we lack the depth to cover injuries well, unfortunately injuries have hit us harder than expected which has lead to poor results, hopefully when the squad gets fit again we will see ourselves fly up the table!

Mohsni is a centre back ! no wonder he is all over the place at the moment, sure push him up front in a game if we are desperate but why start him there when we have young players waiting to show what they can do , ie Asante and if Crawford cant play up front then why is he still here ?
