The Health and Well Being Thread

TrueBlue

SJP Taxi & Private Hire ⭐️
Following on from a superb idea from Tony, I introduce the Health and Well Being thread where you can talk about any concerns or ask for advice as well as share your experiences.

Please note though that the views on this thread should not be taken as gospel but rather one of guidance - any persistent problems or worries book an appointment with your GP!!

I think if people are posting advice it'd be useful to state the basis for that advice (i.e. you're a doctor, you've had a particular illness etc etc). I think that would be helpful. As you say, it should be advice and guidance, and people should do their best to speak to a medical professional if they have concerns about their health and wellbeing

Oh yeah for sure but sometimes it takes friendly faces to tell you to go for somebody to listen

Completely agree Scott.

I'll put together a post when I have a min which outlines some useful online resources for thinking about health.

Don't each **** so much + moving about a lot = steadying the ship.

I walk 15 miles a week and try to get a run as well as football on a Sunday in and that's done it for me.

I still enjoy a takeaway too, chicken kebab besides being delicious is probably the best of a bad bunch in terms of a nice treat.

I've done things the right and wrong way, the wrong way ending me up in hospital for nearly 2 weeks with pancreatitis due to dropping something like 3 stone in 4 months by pretty much giving up food, got out made a decision to do it properly and the weight's stayed down now 5 years later. Went from a 40" waist to a 34" (considering I'm 5'3 that's scary to think I was that big) and find it amazing to think that I feel better in my 30s than I ever did at any point in my 20s when I'd only need to look at a radiator and I'd look like I've been running around in a monsoon for sweat.

Just got to keep the focus.

When you are having an operation, tell the consulatant beforehand not to shout "Jesus Christ" until after the anaesthetic has kicked in.

Also tell him not to say to the surgeon "that's twice you've done that wrong" just before you're being taken back onto the ward.

I ran well-being clinics up till last year (nurse) feel free to ask away, PMs also welcome (have helped others on here already)

I would also say it's just as important to have a healthy mind as well as body. There's nothing more debilitating than being unwell physically and not being up to it psycholigically to deal with it.

It sounds very simple, and I can't explain why, but whenever I get frustrated or just generally downbeat a brisk walk does me the power of good. Especially if it's mild with light drizzle. I don't know what it is but the feel of the rain hitting my face makes me feel somehow more alive. Bucketing down is horrible though.

Buckets of evidence linking exercise and improved mood. We try to encourage all our chronic pain patients to slowly start building up an activity that they enjoy to get them more active.
