The Goat calls it a day

fbm

Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
Todays league paper features an article about the Goat going out to graze. Nothing new to us there. We already knew this was his last season.

However, he is adamant that his last match will be on May 6th as he won't be pushing his aching limbs beyond that date.

That means - and the article confirms - that we will NOT have his services if we end up in the play offs.

Yesterdays result was definitely shades of Oxford last year. How much have we learned?

I couldn't get to the game yesterday, but on the radio it sounded as though the result was about right.

Hartlepool is now a massive game and if we can get a win of any description then we'll be back on track. Any dropped points in that game will have a disastrous effect on the teams confidence.

Mahers absence yesterday was crucial but I still maintain that he has been so pivotal in our gameplan for the last few seasons that we don't really know how to play without him. We don't seem to have a "Plan B" when either of our central midfield pairing are missing.

This is a worrying stat - if either Maher or Guttridge have been missing this season, we have not won the match. With Guttridge on 9 bookings thats scary.

I was at the game and those who constantly knock Maher must now realise how vital he is to the side. We had no ball retention at all, for me guttridge and bently both were extremely poor.

Shame he's contracted until June 30th then.

(I think, as this is usually the date for contracts ending.)

Maybe he's adamant he wont push it furthur beyong may 6th is because he knows we won't be playing after may 6th

My god I hope he is right.

i just think we lost to a better team on the day who new how to stop us playing. i remember when we played them in the cup they had us watched four or five times prior to the game. Sure we missed maher but didnt he play in the two matches at home to them which we lost and drew. In the last quater of the match they went for it and we didnt. they got what they deserved and we got what we deserved. NOTHING
