The fbm views and ratings

Once again another excellent report.

Give Sodje the armband for the Southampton game and give him free reign to rant and rave at those around him not putting in the same commitment to the cause as he does week in week out.

Excellent stuff FBM. If Sodje and Bradders had been fit all season I dont think we'd be bottom, the only 2 players who really seemed to want to win.

Come on, folks - the fbm report usually provokes more comments than this...

Yes your quite right....

I bet a Harrold/Bradbury striker force would strike fear into the Championship.

Get real lads...Freddy is streets ahead of all the others strikers and to drop him would be nothing short of footballing suicide.

Bradbury was really good and was my man of the match , won the ball and flicked it on countless times. Basically does the stuff Paynter and Harrold should have been.

Not sure about him being a good partner with Paynter or Harrold mind, neither of them seem to be players that will run onto his flicks but Hooper would work well.

Too harsh on Freddy though and another example of the team playing poorly and expecting him to score on his own.

It did before it became the official front page report, but since it has been appearing on there the comments on here have dried up.

Excellent report again, as usual.

And agree with shrimpbizkit, if Bradbury hadn't got injured and Sodje had been available from the start of the season I honestly think we would be at least on a par with the relegation battle, not lagging 6 point behind Hull.

for once i dont fully agree with your ratings.. thought francis and hunt were better than you accounted for (hunt was definitely better than macca defensively and did a good job seeing as he isnt really a midfielder).. sodje definitely wasn't MOTM because for all his hard work his passing was still shocking, every clearance seemed to bounce off the arse of an attacker.thought gower was our biggest threat and had a great volley blocked, and the less said about JCR the better... anyone who picks up the ball in the box and then runs out of it should be transfer listed IMO

Don't get me wrong, Matt, that wasn't in any way a criticism, merely an observation. I'm not sure why it has happened, but it does seem to attract fewer comments now, though the quality is as high as ever. It certainly deserves front page status.

Ok then...

Francis

Made some superb tackles and interventions, granted. However, there was one promising move in the second half which involved jcr laying the ball back to Francis, whose cross was frankly the most appalling bit of distribution I have ever seen as it sailed over the South Upper. Yes, I know the ball bobbled but he was under no pressure and could have taken a touch and looked up before attempting to cross it. His delivery was very much hit and hope which again smacks of low confidence. Other short passes went awry and his long balls rrely found theuir target either. So I thought his mark was justified.

Hunt

Sorry, he was dire with as much spark as a soggy match. I quite like Hunt, in certain positions. I think that in league one he deputises very well at centre back and in either the CCC or leagues one or two makes a decent defensive full back. Sadly he is not and in my opinion never has been the sort of midfielder that we can get away with. We would need to play 4-5-1 in order to axccomodate him there. However, I said it seemed unfair to criticise bearing in mind he is barely fit and out of position. That doesn't warrant a higher mark though.

Sodje

His passing is always shocking and his clearances unorthodox. But he is still an absolute rock and if he had been playing all this season we wouldn't be in this situation. On Saturday both he and Prior kept Bothroyd (who is a handful) pretty quiet. I can't think who played any better last Saturday.

Gower

Biggest threat? When and how? He was unusually quiet and created almost nothing. How the hell was he a threat? One volley blocked doesn't constitute "biggest threat"

JCR

Now I thought he was the most creative. If he came out of the box it was only to create an alternative as there was no-one in the box initially. He put over several crosses but there was no-one there to get the ball into so they seemed wasted. Yet if he doesn't cross he's greedy. It beats me.

i think i was looking more relatively...

francis was my player of the first half, all the attacks built from him getting forward and working well with jcr.. and his tackling was great... agreed that maybe he could have taken a touch but i think he looked up, saw the box was loaded and tried to put it in first time (often he puts in a great first time ball, and you cant really knock him for the fact it took a bobble)

hunt IMO had a better game in macca because neither got forward, however hunt did a better job tracking runners. its all nit-picking but i felt hunt was better than macca and therefore i would give him a higher rating

sodje was class but for all his work winning the ball, more often than not he gave it away straight away... he is usually a pretty calm character and so its frustrating when he doesnt take some time to pick out a pass (as we have seen before he can sometimes put through a decent ball)

gower: my comment was tongue in cheek because none of our players were threatening... however i thought he did a good job defensively and at the beginning of the 2nd half looked the only fired up player on the pitch... also he had a volley blocked which is more than any other player can really claim (freddys' 1st half shot and maccas 35yd attempt are the only others i can remember)

jcr, we all know he can skin a player cos he usually tries in our own half or when its complete unnecessary.. however if he is in the box, that is when i actually want him to take people on! however he turned and ran out and then failed to get the ball back in... shocking. for all his huff and puff he still hasnt scored or set up a goal which is a serious worry. im not saying he had a 'mare on sat, just i thought he was poor and needs to use his skills when the moment requires (i.e c. ronaldo etc)

imo the ratings would be:

flavs - 6.5 nothing to do, distribution was better than usual i thought

francis - 7
hammel - 6.5
sodje - 7
prior - 6 ( as captain he need to take some responsibility for not getting the team fired up)

macca 6
hunt 6.5
gower 7
jcr 6

fred 6
bradders MOM 7.5
