Certainly agree that MoM could have been any of Bradbury, The Goat (who probably just edged it for me - his link up play was sublime), Freddy (two brilliantly taken goals), Gower (how hard did he work?!) or Sodje (who has got the pace that the rest of his colleagues back there lack).
As for Lee Bradbury, Tilly proves yet again why he is manager and we are not. I remember feeling distinctly underwhelmed when we signed him... and yet, on Saturday, he was different class - brilliant control, wonderful vision, so much time on the ball... a joy to watch.
Marky Gower's tracking back was a revelation on Saturday. It's as if he's realised that he'll never get another crack at the top two divisions, and he's working like he's never worked before. What a joy to watch... a fit and confident Mark Gower is Championship quality, IMHO.
Sodje - another inspired Tilly signing. Crucially, he has the pace which the rest of the back four lacks - and that is so important for us. He & Adam Barrett have formed a great partnership already. Can't really see Spinner getting back in the side at this rate...
Thought Kev Maher & Darryl were solid, without ever really having too much to do, and only Gutts didn't have a great afternoon - well, from 3.02 pm onwards, his contribution was less telling than others'.
As for the Goat... how on earth are we going to replace him? A sublime performance from him - so many deft touches, always retaining possession, always doing something with the ball. Magnificent. It's so good that he's back to his best - this is definitely the way he would have wanted to finish his career. Goat - you are a legend, sir, and we salute you.
Finally, Freddy... wow. Now firmly in my Southend United all-time XI, that second goal was joyfully venomous and the first spoke buckets about Freddy's composure. My joy at watching him on Saturday, however, was tinged with the inevitable concern: how long can we hold on to him?
Oh well, let's enjoy the rest of this season - and let's celebrate our centenary with a pot in the cupboard. The title is ours for the taking - let's just bloody well take it.
