The difference between Promotion and Relegation - Leon Clarke

CC51DAS

President
Here are some shocking statistics - I had an idea that there would be a marked contrast but didn't imagine it would be this extreme

Games played with Leon Clarke in the side

P 16 W 9 D 2 L 5 Points 29 Average 1.81 ( equivalent to 83 in a season )

Games without Leon Clarke in the side

P 11 W 2 D 2 L 7 Points 8 Average 0.72 (equivalent to 33 in a season )

ON THIS FORM WE WOULD TAKE ANOTHER 14 POINTS FROM THE REMAINING 19 GAMES THIS SEASON AND FINISH WITH A TOTAL OF 51

Now if we take a look at the split between games which he started but didn't finish ie the sending off at Forest (up till which point we were still in the game ) and the Doncaster away match when clearly he had the ar5e-ache and was subbed early in the 2nd half, the picture gets even worse

Games which Leon Clarke played and finished

P 14 W 9 D 2 L 3 Points 29 Average 2.07 ( equivalent to 95 in a season)

Games which he didn't play or finish

P 13 W 2 D 2 L 9 Points 8 Average 0.61 ( equivalent to just 28 a season )

IF THIS FORM WAS TO CONTINUE WE WOULD ONLY GET ANOTHER 12 POINTS FROM OUR NEXT 19 GAMES MAKING A TOTAL OF 49 FOR THE SEASON

Please don't accuse me of being a doom and gloom merchant - I only have the club's best interests at heart . But I wonder if those that matter at the club are aware of the striking difference one striker has made to our season so far ?

We have got 4 working days of the transfer window left and I sincerely hope that we are not going to leave everything resting on just Lee Barnard's young shoulders .

and the questions we will probabley never know -

did Leon really want to stay -

what does his agent think is best for Leon --

what was the sudden extra 30k really all about ?????

whats the money deal -

looks like the back up strategy (Walker) went Pete Tong -

our up and coming strikers haven't quite made it -

with alleged money in our pockets maybe there will be rich pickings in the last few days -

as they say - it ain''t esy

Leon Clarke's young shoulders are younger than Lee Barnard's young shoulders so age doesn't come into it! Amazing and worrying to think we've only won two games all season without him.

However, the stats are misleading in that we haven't been losing games from not scoring on the whole, but from conceding too many. The goals against stat is the really telling one in my book.

I agree lets pay the extra damn £30k and get him back here !

But when he's here we cant use hime as the target man, he has even admitted he cant play that role and i'm certainly not going to disagree with him there !!!

Well is it ? Perhaps he helped relieve pressure on the defence proving to be a better outlet and more of a handful than the current incumbents .

And I am not saying bring him back - but I am saying that without him things would be looking very sorry indeed and therefore we can't afford to rest on our laurels and hope that Lee Barnard (good that I hope he will be ) will be the 'miracle cure'

For the record the teams Clarke played against were

Gillingham, Oldham, Doncaster, Port Vale, Brizzle Rovs, Crewe, Tranmere, Walsall, Carlisle, Northampton, Forest, Huddersfield, Swindon, Oldham, Gillingham and Doncaster

He missed out on

Orient, Leeds, Millwall, Brighton, Cheltenham, Luton, Swansea, Brizzle Rovers, Yeovil, Bournemouth, and Hartlepool

So I wouldn't say he played in just the easy ones

Interesting stats, however you can also argue that we may well have won against Gills, Crewe, Walsall, Northampton and Huddersfield without him...

Yearp, maybe we would have - in the end these are only statistics - but I have rarely seen such a marked contrast . Did Leon just pick the easy games ?

I'd be upset if we ever saw this **** again.

For anyone who wasted a whole day's travel up to Donny and back just to see that**** waltz about then you will know what i'm saying.

But for sure one man can make a difference to this side as we have a good team that just needs a couple of tweaks to be a great team.

If i ever see that **** L Clarke at Southend i'll enjoy going over and ****ting him.

Once again I am NOT saying I would like to see him back , I am just illustrating how p1ss poor our points tally has been when he hasn't played . And if we continue in that vein we shall soon be in or around the drop zone so we'd better get our act together fast .

No offence to the promising Scannel who hasn't played a full match at this level , but is one 'experienced ' signing going to be enough ?

We paid the price for failing to strengthen the squad this time last year - I hope history is not about to repeat itself.

.... that'd be the experience mustered in a career record of 12 League starts?

There is no doubt we miss Clarke, but we have scored more than most in this div. 40 goals against in the leage,so far tells you were the problems are.

If he signed then fine I'd accept him but can't say I WANT to see him back. We all know that stats can be used to enhance whatever point is being made and we are all realistic enough to know by now that it isn't really our lack of goals up front but the number going in at the other end that's costing us most dearly. I also think that, for whatever reason, our supposedly brilliant midfield is just not working together well, too many of them are having off days far too frequently, and if these guys in the middle are off their game then it obviously has a knock on effect up front - no service, no goals.

Could not agree more - Our defending is the same as last year and the only time we've looked composed at the back was when Richards was playing, so the problem does appear to be a defensive one and as much as I like Barrett and Clarke they are too similar.

We really do need a big Jason DeVos type Centre Back that will stop our keepers being exposed!

Where's Mel Slack For England when you need him , only a few more days till the window is shut. It's bloody draughty without someone coming through the window !

Maybe... but so does Harrold arguably.

There is only one team (Swansea) that has scored more goals away from home this season. What an incredible stat for a team apparently so short of a 'star' striker.

Only one team (Gillingham) has conceded more goals away from home this season.

The obsession with signing strikers from fans, manager and chairman is extraordinary when the problems are so clearly at the other end of the pitch.

I would like to see the stats expanded to show what the situation was for games with harrold and Clarke, Just Clarke and just Harrold.

And in all honesty all it shows is that without a real goal threat , you 'aint going up.........
