The cynic in me

Pak Power

Manager⭐🦐
As we as a club descend into the depths of the footballing basement, I can't help thinking this is all part of a bigger plan.
There is a clause/covenant in the deeds of Roots Hall that state Southend United Football Club have to be playing at a new site before a development can happen at our current ground.
As far as I am aware, and I have not seen the clause, It does not state it has to be a 22,000 seater stadium fit for championship football (let's face it even the rose tinted brigade must admit we are a long way from that).
So, how about this for a scenario.
1. Our football club is run into the ground (no pun) deliberately. No players, not being able to put a team out/no subs poor quality players. (I am talking Blue Square or below)
2. The need for a 22,000 fossetts dream is now over.
3. Sainsbury's buy us a 'football ground' field or something akin to Stambridge United/Great Wakering Rovers (No offence to either of those teams or their fans, just making a point)
4. Foossetts Farm's planning is changed (it can happen) to not include a ground at all, siting the now no-need for a 22,000 statdium when only 1,000 fans watch us. The neighbours who opposed the development will be ok with another hotel/casino/housing development, as long as it's not a football ground.
Sainsbury's develop Roots Hall, (and possibly Fossets)
5. All we are left with are memories !!!!

I hope this never happens, but the cynic in me watches the demise of our team, and our (ron's) dream every day.

The club isnt being run into the ground deliberately. If it was then Ron Martin wouldnt have paid massive tax bills, he would have gone into admin.

This is all down to his lack of resources to deliver the project in my opinion, not wilful intent.

The fact the sainsburys appear to have ron by the short and curlys and have now agreed to purchase prospects is to me a massive step.

There will be no point in changing the ground plans as architects would have to be assigned to even a ground of half the size and that would cost a lot of money. In a bizzarr way it will be cheaper to build the stadium that has already been designed and agreed.

I big factor on how the new ground will impact on crowds and the town etc will be how brightons ground fills up. Similar sized town and fan base and similar sized build. Admittedly they are a division ahead of us , but you get the idea.

I think with sainsbury's on board we now have the best possible chance of the stadium to go ahead and of removing ron from power and with the stadium being built ultimately attracting a new owner.

I have gone from dispair to hope in a matter of days
