The Boxer Rebellion...

Topgun Pilot
...got a mention on 5Live this morning.

They were talking about the demise of the album because of people downloading single tracks. They mentioned that The Boxer Rebellion were dumped by every record label, but released their album on their own, and it rose to #4 in the charts (I think they said download charts).

I can't remember the name of the person on here that is a member of the band, otherwise I would have PM'd him. If someone could pass this on, he might be interested...

Thankyou to whoever posted this. Didn't know they gave it a mention.
Look forward to seeing you on 16th Glasgow...for anyone else, there's still tickets around for Chinnerys.

A great gig in Glasgow last night.
The new stuff off Union sounded amazing live.
A bit of a shame the crowd wasn't what it could have been in terms of numbers.
The support band (The Chemists?) from Bristol weren't half bad either.

Honestly, if you are into your live music (& local to Southend) get down to Chinnerys next week and check them out...

Taken from yesterday's Glasgow Metro (written by Ben East)

A recent feature about incredible music streaming service Spotify on Radio 5 Live used a montage of songs by Radiohead, Coldplay, Artic Monkeys and... The Boxer Rebellion. Yep, a band who manged to be dropped two weeks after their first album was released in 2005 were being held up as an example of a great modern rock act. Eh?

It is a great story, actually; The Boxer Rebellion mobilised their MySpace fans, got them to buy their second album, Union, via iTunes and all of a sudden they were matching the likes of Kings Of Leon and Coldplay in sales. The Official Chart Company refused to let their download-only record count in the charts - a policy that's under review but was good for The Boxer Rebellion in terms of column inches.

And they should rightly be proud. The reason for their success isn't just canny use of the internet. It's because Union is a fantastic record; all billowing, dark indie rock - a great set of songs that are getting the exposure they deserve.

Yep. Crowd was a bit quiet compared to when I saw them at Dingwalls a couple of weeks before, but was still pretty good. Highlights for me were Flashing Red Light Means Go (as always) and Semi-Automatic. Support act Molotovs were a bit of a cross between Editors and Vampire Weekend, but weren't really my cup of tea.

Reckon I'll make it a hat-trick at the end of April and go and see them at the Scala.
