Terracing Petition

Terracing was removed from most football grounds for a very good reason. Whilst it may be ok for smaller clubs you only have to look at the game between Lille and Man Utd two weeks ago to see what you can expect at a stadium that has both seating and terracing. A step back in my honest opinion, however this is only my view !

But the stadium in question had fences up.

Signed although the petition is only for Premiership grounds

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to bring back the right to stand (terracing) at premiership football grounds.

Police brutality?

I agree.

I love standing on a terrace but i simply can't see what benefit would come from bringing terracing back to grounds. Safety has to come first (football's just a game after all) and all seater stadiums are safer.

If standing is safe is small stadiums then it is safe in large stadiums.

If standing is safe at rugby then it is safe at football.

Terraces may have to be properly divided up for safety reasons so that you no longer get massive single terraces, but that isn't a reason to ban terraces.

Terraces were not outlawed for safety reasons but were banned in an attempt to combat hooliganism. Hooliganism is no longer an issue because of proper policing, not because of all-sitter stadia.

The Taylor Report did NOT recommend closure of the terraces. It actually stated that terracing "was NOT intrinsically unsafe". How come it is perfectly fine to stand at rugby? How come it's considered perfectly safe to stand at pop concerts? The removal of standing from football (especially top-tier) was merely a cynical ploy to get the football supporter to pay more to watch the game live. Did you know that if the Taylor Report was implemented 'letter-for-letter' (i.e. without the wholesale removal of terracing), a ticket for a Premiership game wouldn't cost much more than £15? Look at Germany; you can get into a top game for £10. How come not in the UK? Because the Germans have safe standing areas.

The Taylor Report also recommended fan representation on the boards of football clubs.

Maybe the war cry should be "Fans will sit when offered a seat in the boardroom!"
