Team VS Palace

Simbo

Newbie
Now i know we looked pretty good on Saturday and you should never really tamper with a winning side but im slightly concerned about the lack of pace at the back when we face Palace. Both Spinner and Barrett looked good at the weekend and gave 100% against Stokes two HUGE strikers but facing Morrison (i assume he will start even though he got pulled off at half time by Peter Taylor...ooo-er!) will be a completely different task. He has pace and i dont think Palace will play as many direct long balls as Stoke did. Im anticipating fluid and fast attacks and im wondering if Tilly is considering playing Clarke at the back to try and counter that.

Who would you play at the back? My preferred choice for this game would be Clarke and Barrett.

An interesting question. Tilly's management style in the past suggests that you earn the right to play and it would be difficult to "drop" Spinner after his performance this weekend. The question may be decided by whether Tilson believes he can play two games in four days.

I agree completely.

I'd stick with the same side apart from Clarke in for Prior.

The only other possible change that I can see Tilly might do (and this is not to say I would necessarily do that same) would be Bradders switching to the wing instead of JCR, to provide a bit more of a solid defensive capability - with Paynter putting himself about up front.

I think that will be Tilly's tactic away from home.

Great minds think alike

Same team. Wasnt the reason for not playing Clarke from the start that he was coming back from an injury? Cant believe you would drop JCR, the only player with genuine pace, and the Palace babck line looked pretty slow on "the Championship". Paynter will have to wait his chance.

I agree with shrimpbizkit here. Not only does JCR offer our team pace, but his workrate is unbelievable at times. Bags of energy. And he also offers a great outlet for the counter attack.

Keep it the same at the back.
Also, I would keep JCR. Although he often hangs onto the ball too long he will sort that out by playing more often, and I thought he made a couple of decent defensive contributions on Saturday.

The Bradders/JCR switch had crossed my mind too. Lets be realistic we will probably be defending for large portions of the game and JCRs pace will be valuable on the counter attack. Its a tough one to call though, i can see positives on both sides of the arguement.

We looked considerably less likely to score when JCR went off on Saturday, I really hope he starts tomorrow. I'd like to see Clarke instead of Spinner, Bradbury instead of Gower with Paynter up front.

Not a bad shout there. Can bring Gower on late in the game, when there is more space for him to exploit. Got marked out the game too easily at times on Saturday causing him to drift inside. Though how can you not play Bradbury upfront after the performance he gave the other day? Nice problem to have this!

Same side as saturday for me...Jcr will ask questions of Palace...and Spinner definately did enough saturday to merit his place.

Id like to see the same side.

Think Prior should give way to Clarke at some point soon, but having a bit of continuity for this game may be useful.

Id understand if Bradbury was put on the right to give us a more solid look, but after his performance Saturday would like us to have a go at them with him up front and JCR on the right.

Paynter on the bench to come on 2nd half again.

Why is everyone looking to drop JCR. I thought he was our best player except Bradbury & Francis on Saturday.

I would drop Spinner on the basis that he is a bit cumberson and go with Clarke.

I think Tilly will keep the same tough.

Team i rekon will play:

Flahavan
Hammell
Clarke - Will be faster then Prior and we need a pacy back 4 because morrison has pace!
Barrett
Francis
Gower
Gutts
Maher
JCR
Freddy
Bradbury- Played superbly on sat he was MOTM Created the goal:p and looked very pacy.

Score 2-2

I doubt if Spinner will be up to three ganes in seven days, and expect that Clarke will have to wait until QPR for his full debut. Same team as against Stoke for me.

I think it'd be pretty harsh to change the team. It's nice to suddenly be in a position where we have a few options though.... later on in the season, there could be a lot of mileage in Bradders starting on the wing for tough away games, with maybe JCR coming on late on to run at tired defences..

Clarke for AB - see no need for any other changes though playing away from home Tilly might not have the luxury of two attacking wingmen so the Bradbury RM switch might be an option.

I do find this amusing that everyone i saying play Bradders to give us a more solid look in midfield.... He's a STRIKER!!!!!!!

In my opinion, JCR tracks back better than any winger I can remember seeing, far more so than when Bradders plays, and more so in one half on Saturday than Gower has done in all his games for us. Absolute no brainer for me, he was our most creative outlet on Saturday and he MUST start.

As for Bradbury, he played his best game for us on Saturday, and that was as an out and out striker, so again, why would you move him?

Paynter looked good to me when he came on, but he has to wait his chance, as Freddy and Lee looked to have created a good partnership there, and in such a small space of time.

With regards to the defence, I hate to say it, but if I was to make a change, it wouldnt be Spinner, who i thought played very well, it would be Barrett, who I thought sufferred a torrid time against Sidibe and at no point looked comfortable, either on the deck or the air. I have said it before, I believe he was fully stretched last season, and I believe this season may be a bridge too far for him, which is a shame as he, and quite rightly so, a legend at the Hall.

Having said all of that, I am very much of the mind you dont break up a winning side, so i would probably, JUST, stick with the same team.... But if Barrett gets the kind of treatment he did Satuirday, it wont be long before Clarke comes into the frey!
