HARRY Taylor wants Southend United to show how far they have come when they head back to York City this weekend.
Last season’s 3-0 defeat at the Minstermen is remembered as one of the lowest point in the club’s history.
And Taylor – who was sent off along with Gus Scott-Morriss that day – is now seeking far happier memories with the Shrimpers.
“The last time we played these away it wasn't the nicest time to be a Southend supporter,” said the defender.
“We've come a long a way as a club since then and it would be nice to show the fans that but we focus on the game and the job in hand.
“Hopefully we can come away with some points.”
The Shrimpers head into a tough looking test sitting 15th in the National League standings.
And Taylor has been frustrated by the season so far.
“We've probably under-performed and then in some of the games where we have performed we haven't got the points so it's been a bit tricky,” said Taylor.
“We've been a lot better recently and have a bit of momentum on our side so hopefully we can carry that on.
“Defensively I think we're getting better and back to what it used to be but attacking wise we need to create as many chances as we can.”
Blues made it five games unbeaten with a 0-0 draw at home to Hartlepool last time out.
But Taylor was keen to point towards the positives.
“It's always tough against them and I think it was a draw against them earlier in the season too,” said Taylor.
“We both match up against each other quite well and cancel each other out but we probably could've used the ball a bit better as a team to create more chances.
“But we take the positives and that's a clean sheet to add to the tally going into Saturday.”
However, Taylor is expecting another stern test against the Minstermen who are second in the table.
“They're doing very well and have a lot of momentum,” said Taylor.
“It's them, Barnet and Forest Green going for the title so we’ve got to be on our A game going there.”
The match comes at the end of an already memorable week for Taylor’s family after his brother Jack scored his first Premier League goal in Ipswich Town’s win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But Taylor admits he is very unlikely to follow his brother onto the score-sheet any time soon for the Shrimpers.
“I’m buzzing for him (Jack) and he deserves it.
“He's scored in every league from the National League up to the Prem now.
“He's done quality to get up to that level and hopefully he can stay at.
“But I'm about defending and keeping goals out.
“I certainly wouldn’t put a bet on me scoring if I was you.”
