Taking a lot for granted

Having listened to all 3 RM interviews, and everything that has being going on in the last few months, there is a lot being taken for granted by the Board of SUFC.

The one thing fans need is honesty - not slipperyness. Not once during the interviews was there any indication given that we are hard at work bringing players in. Nothing about the situation regarding lifting the embargo - do we (still) owe monies to the PFA?

All I have heard is blame, some (but not much) self admonishment. Worse still all will be well when we get a BIGGER ground.

One thing the Board need to realise is no club can survive without fans. Treating them the way they have been is only going to alienate them further, which WILL influence crowd sizes.

So please much less about new kits, platinum suites, programme sellers etc. Start reassuring us that we WILL have 11 players starting the season (11 players that have a chance of winning a game).

I will always support SUFC but living overseas I am feeling much less like making such an effort (and throwing away a lot of money) to get to as many games I can.

So Ron, please:

Let's get some players in;
stop making excuses for everything;
be honest;
stop treating the supporters like mugs

I agree we are being taken for granted and mugged by the club. "Thank you for you continued support and loyalty during these difficult time..." rather than the 'Them vs Us' mentality that has developed... Does any of us feel like we (fans, management, players, board and Ron) are all working together? Do we bollocks...

We should come up with some hard-hitting questions then.

I'll start you off with a couple:

1. Why did we not snap off the hand of the unnamed League One club when they made the "substantial offer" for the Tenerife One in September when this would have (1) produced some much needed cash to go towards the first HMRC winding up order, (2) reduced our wage bill and therefore reduced the losses we were operating at; and (3) lessened our future HMRC liabilities that see us back in court again?

2. Why have we not learnt our lesson and are set to be in the top three wage bills in League Two when the club has severe cashflow issues and has been operating at substantial losses for the last three years? Even if we can "afford" it, should we not be looking to build up some reserves to cope with future crises so as to ensure we are never in this position again?

Im getting fed up with some people, infact nearely ALL the people on this site. This site just seems to be for moaners who say they care for the club, but do you really as much as you say you do. Yes Im sure you do, and fantastic, no one could ask for anymore, but we could ask for less...

... Yes we need more players in if we have a change of going up next season, but don't you think Ron is being honest? Just because it isn't what you want to hear, that doesn't mean he is lying.

And how can you say the club is treating us like mugs, the senior board do so much to keep us in the know, and personally... what other chairman do you know that keeps their fans in the know as much as Ron does. Im not a total fan, but talk about taking things being taken for granted, dont you think most of the people on here, including you South247, are taking for granted what we are actually getting.
You take what we get given, which is a huge amount from the club, and you just rip it up and moan. If the little things weren't done for example, you would just moan about that. It seems like Ron can't win at the moment. As I have said, yes there are things not right, but there are also things that ARE. So pleasure do try and take this post into account, and not just post stupid things that make you look ignorant and in a sense just purely arrogant, and BE greatful for what we do get from the club. We get better things than reading a little statement from some lonely corner of the club every month.

Here are a few questions from a post I started on the 30Th June. This was when he was on the missing list.

Anyone seen or herd from our great leader? About time we did isn't it?
We are discussing the problems of our beloved football club on here every day, the things that are fact, the things that are destroying us day by day, speculation and our worries for the clubs future.
Things couldn't be much worse at the moment and yet their is complete silence, apart from a statement about Barrett and Macca, Scannell,Stannard, cup clash date and new kit on sale and the sex claim incident.

What we need is Ron Martin to come out, try and be honest for a change, not to fob us off with false hopes and promises, just tell us how bad things really are, honestly Ron, it will be no surprise to us.

To Ron Martin.
Then tell us Ron, what are you doing about it? How are you going to save our club?
What are you doing about the transfer embargo? When are you going to get back the money that you say the tax man owes us? How are you going to pay the next tax bill? Is there any money left in the club? What is the latest on Prospects college, the small row of shops in Victoria Avenue and fossetts farm and the new ground?
You keep feeding us little snippets of hope, what are they based on. You seem to think promotion is achievable, how?
An example from last week after you refuted the cleaner's claim.
Quote 'In the meantime I will not be deflected from our objective to rebuild the team and recreate the success on the pitch that we all crave.'
Is this more waffle to keep the masses quiet?, if it is not and you are finding money from somewhere to buy and pay new players and rebuild a squad capable of winning promotion, then tell us. If this is not happening, then please don't insult our intelligence by talking about promotion.

Welcome to the board. Let me, if I may, correct you on some of your interesting points.

Check my Posts. I don't tend to moan all the time but something is wrong right now. Surely you see this?

Yes we have just got 3 interviews from Ron. Yes there probably aren't many Chairman out there that do this. BUT, he only did it in response to fan discontent and let's face it he didn't really say anything did he?

You questioned my points. Well let's think shall we?

Ron could have given supporters reassurance on this. He didn't. I look around at clubs in League 2 all signing players. Stuart Fleetwood has just signed for Hereford (we were interested in him not so long ago). We haven't even heard if Screech has re-signed. Why no information? We are entitled to ask. Are we not playing our first friendly in less than a week?

Have you not listened to Ron's interviews? It is everyone's fault but his. Peter Clark, Exeter example, high payers etc etc etc. HMRC for wanting their money. Does he learn nothing?

My point on this is that much is commented on by RM about the new stadium. This assumes much about filling the new stadium. For this it needs a fan base, not just for the big games but for the season. How many future fans are being put off by what is going on at the club?

The senior Board, you say, do so much to keep us in the know. Really? They might respond to an article in the Echo but nothing more. You may not recall the Southend Club Call in late eighties/early nineties when John Adams the Vice Chairman put out daily updates. You telling me you are happy with what you hear from RM and Geoffrey King?. And the rest of the Board? Please, let me and the rest of the Zone know what forum you have hidden away where you are hearing from the senior Board

And finally, aside from your ignorant and arrogant comments, you cast aspersions on how much I and others are really fans of the club. By your own admission you are not a total fan. Well let me tell you most of us on the Zone are. I watch around 5 matches a season. I would watch them all but I am living in Bucharest. On average each game costs me 600. You do the maths, then you ask me again about my commitment to the club.

Can I make a suggestion? I think pubey should start by apologizing to you for his patronizing comment towards you, and then you should apologize for over reacting. Shake hands over the internet and unite behind the blues. We are all a little wound up with what's going on, but at the end of the day we are on the same side.

i agree with you and this is what i have tried to do previously. i have tried sorting it out before but i'm sure you have noticed what he's like. i can only take so much. i can stand people who give it but on the internet and expect nothing in response. i'm sorry but i am not the sort of person to sit back and allow someone to try and mug me off.
