SZ player of the Year

Napster

No ⭐
Last season it was Mark Gower, the season before Leon Cort. Who is it to be this season? As soon as the Trust announces when the Trust player of the year awards will be, we will hold a poll here.

Get your thinking caps on. Could it be Adam Barrett, solid at the back and scorer of vital goals; Kevin Maher who has captained the side to some good performances, carl Pettefer who has been enthusiastic and gritty; Super Cheese Wilson, who has grown in stature or Freddy Eastwood? The choices are there.

The award will be presented at the Trust player of the year award and this time the photos will appear on the site...

Barrett without question, he has been immense..

One of the best defenders ive ever seen in a blue shirt.

High praise indeed, but certainly well deserved.

Well done Adam!!.

Legend!.

1. Eastwood - given us that extra bit of class and has turned us from a good team into a great team.

2. Bentley - despite taking 20 minutes to get into a game, he has been one of our best performers all season. An absolutely vital cog in the team.

3. Prior - we wouldn't be where we are without his experience, know-how and commitment. As good as Barrett has been, our key defender is Spinner. Makes the odd mistake (ie every other game!) but more than redeems himself with the rest of his defending.

Honourable mentions to Pettefer for playing every game yet never stopped biting at the ankles, and Barrett whose goals, passion and composure have been a big plus.

Barret, a Southend Supporter gets a 10% bonus straight away, for too long we've had journey men.
Eastwood is bringing publicity etc and i'd vote for him, but its the Nathan Jones syndrome isn't it, he'll bugger off for 250k and we'll all say we should of got at least 750k etc etc. If he said he'll defo stay at Southend next year, he might swing my vote.
Bentley has had some off patches but, he has been like an oppositions nightmare, churning them all up etc.

does it have to be a player, can't I pick Tilson?

If it has to be a player, then Barrett gets it.

Barrett or Gray for me. I guess I'd go for Barrett simply because Gray has had more average performances than Adam.

Freddy is the obvious one but joined part way through and Bentley has been good only recently, with some earlier performances being decidedly average.

Honourable mention to Griemink for his part, and for both Flahavan and Wilson who have both vastly improved since last year.

You could name anyone really. Very few disappointments... hmmm.. I feel a new thread coming on...

How good is it that there are genuinely six or seven names in the running for the top three, if not more. I would say that Barrett, Eastwood, Prior, Bentley, Maher, Pettefer, Hunt, Wilson, Flahavan and Gray are all deserved of being in the top three. Makes a change from trying to recall vaguely decent performances over the last 10 years!!

I'd be very tempted to go for Gray. Given everything all season, made countless goals for Eastwood, Dudfield and Bramble Now started scoring frequently too.

What more does he need to do?
