Best not to read if you're squeamish!

How not to celebrate a goal

That has happened before, many years ago to a foreign International keeper whose name escapes me ( although he did it in training ).

Poor sod, serves him right though, he didn't even score the goal. If he had scored the goal himself then fair enough but all he did was claim the assist.

Be thankful it was his wedding ring that got caught in the fence.

I think he should sue the referee. I thought they were supposed to ensure that players did not wear rings, jewellery etc before kicking off.

I remember the same thing happened to a school colleague at junior school (many, many, many years ago). A tennis ball got stuck in the wire fencing around the top of the wall - wayward school lunchtime shot - and, as he tried to prise the ball free, he slipped on the wet bench and fell to the floor. Only his finger didn't follow him ... had nightmares for weeks afterwards ...

When I was doing my referee course we were told - "Take it off or tape it up". Now we see why! Ugh!

I'd sue the referee. Its his job to make sure no player is wearing jewerlly on the field of play, so the ref hasn't carried out the laws of the game.
