Post-Match Thread and Ratings Swindon 3-0 Southend United

A game which started so promisingly for us turned into a nightmare. In front of just over 6000, with a fair few southend fans, a bright start was cut short when ex southend loanee kanu calmly placed the ball beyond mildy, returning from injury, after a swift counter attack with their number 11 (insert name here) tearing us apart down the right.

And the swindon minor didn't have to wait long for the second goal, another counter attack with a penalty converted by cox.

The referee, it seems we say this every week, was not good.
First goal, if i remember correctly, came from what looked like a foul on one of our lads up field. The penalty may have been soft but they did put the ball in the net if the ref had let it go anyway. So the big decisions probably went in their favour, as did every little decision. A chant of "hallelujah" bellowed out after 30 mins when we finally got a freekick.

We did ourselves no favours all game, giving passes away left right and centre, JFC looked off the pace again, Grant had a shocker too, as did Moussa....I could go on. Betsy again seemed to have no pace to take on a defender and it was only when scannell came on that we looked threatening. The strikers had no service apart from hoofs from the center backs every time they had the ball.

Clarke probably deserved a red for a rash challenge late on but he got away with it.

We really missed Macca today, lacking all creativity and sitting too deep all game.

Is this the end of our playoff hopes?

Ratings:
Mildenhall (7) - Skinned their forwards a few times. Southend's best player, could do nothing about the goals!
Sankofa (5) - Looked shaky and couldn't pass wind if he tried.
Dervitte (6) - Again won pretty much every header but distribution was poor and didnt look himself.
Clarke (5) - As dervitte.
Barrett (5) - Not a left back. At fault for at least the first goal, their number 11 was all over him like a powerful moss!
Betsy (5) - Did nothing
JFC (4) - Did he make a successful pass. Didnt notice he was on the pitch.
Grant (4.1) - Again didnt stick a pass, but was slightly better than JFC, only just though.
Moussa (5) - Looked for the ball a lot, got it, passed it backwards. Repeat.
Robinson (6) - Ran about a lot. No service.
Barnard (6) - As robinson.

Subs
Scannell (7) - Ran at players when he came on.
Laurent (6) - Nothing much to note.
Francis (6) - Did he get a touch?

Ref (4) - Pathetic attention to detail (moved the wall back 3 inches on more than one occassion), was so biased was a joke.

Tilly (5) - Left it too late for changes in my opinion...but i'm not a manager.

Tilly leaving it too late to change it, sounds familiar, very frustrating from a fans point of view. :madman:

Theo can out sprint any defence in this league, but apart from an early chance, the service to him was non existant. What a waste as Swindon had a dodgy defence that got better and more confident as the game went on.

Barny went back to playing too deep and became no threat. He must get in the penalty area more as he is a goal poacher.

We were crying out for a creative player that could thread the ball through to Theo.

I'm guessing that was McNamee their no. 11? He ran us ragged last time we were there, but was off form when they played us at RH earlier this season. When I saw they'd also got Tudur-Jones in from Swansea to add to HRK and McNamee I thought we might be in trouble. Sounds as if the midfield will have a shake up for Saturday and for Gawd's sake, get Macca's groin sorted out, we need him out there!

Clarke got sent off?! Didn't know that!
Shame to see Grant not continue his excellent form of late, JFC hasn't been the same player recently, giving it away too easily, give Moussa a chance in CM.

No Sam, it's a bit ambiguous but he deserved one I think is what is being suggested.

The second penalty was embarrasing, Drogba would have been proud of a dive like that. May sound like sour grapes but it isn't, the referee was very poor and any 50/50 decision went the way of the home team, who in all honesty thoroughly deserved the 3 points.
Two teams last night, one fighting to stay in the division. One fighting to get out of it. I think another trip to the County Ground is on the cards for next season after both teams displays.

Why cant Tilly learn, Mosse is not a winger! he cant run at anyone he cant put a ball in and now he plays like Kevin M and can only pass back,
Scannell came on again as sub and i for one think he should be given the start over mosse, and i also think its time for SF to start at right back he looks so much better then OS just a shame Tilly didnt do his homework on Swindon, we all knew the danger man but he didnt sem to put anyone on him, oh well lets hope we get a better game on saturday

RNA rules.

It was all lost in the midfield last night. We looked outnumbered and I can't help thinking if Scannell had 45 mins on the pitch he would have created a goal.

Ratings:
Mildenhall (7) - Looked solid and comfortable.
Sankofa (6) - Pretty unconvincing - made some silly runs but held the right better than Barrett on the left.
Dervitte (6.5) - Solid in defence but couldn't create much
Clarke (7) - Won everything in the air and attempted some good moves but never had the runners.
Barrett (4.5) - Was getting routinely skinned by their right winger. Clumsy and kept drifting inside - he's dying to be a centre back.
Betsy (6.5) - Good movement - ran about a lot but little creativity and was usually disposessed with ease.
JFC (4) - Awful - slow, read the ame poorly, won a few headers but that was about all no creative runs or passes of note.
Grant (4.5) - Pretty anonymous.
Moussa (5) - Lacked the confidence to move forward but was always at least trying to provide an outlet.
Robinson (5) - Seemed a bit off the pace tonight- gave up to easily if he was beaten to a ball.
Barnard (7) - Tried hard and had a few moments of brilliance but little support.

Subs
Scannell (7.5) - Things happen when he gets the ball.
Laurent (5) - Little impact.
Francis (5) - Anonymous

Ref (3) - Classic lower league ref, blew at anything that looked like it might be a free kick regardless of whether a foul was committed.

Play offs seem a long way off with Scunthorpe winning.

Probably because he was bizarrely only a sub that day and only came on for the last 20 minutes!

The best thing about last night was the Roast Pork (with apple stuffing) bun's. They were an absolute treat. And apart from the opening spell, we were dreadful. It was like watching 11 strangers play football with each other. The first goal came from OUR own attack and the truly brilliant McNamee sucked THREE players out to him and he put a lovely ball into RHK who, as ever, glided the ball home beautifully into Mildy's bottom right hand corner. What we could do with him back at the club and he rightfully got a standing ovation from the Southend fans as he left the pitch.

The second goal should have never stood. We (once again) are attacking and the ball gets played into Grant who was literally wrestled to the ground by Cox who ran up the other end of the pitch, gave it to BP and Clarke gets the right side of him by Sankofa STUPIDLY comes in from behind/at the side and gives away a needless penalty. I would have subbed him then for such stupidness. After that, we created **** all for nigh on an hour and it was only when Scanell came on we looked half dangerous. They were quite happy keeping the ball and whenever we got it, we gave it away time and time and time again. I'd love to know how many times we passed the ball to them or our lack of control gifted them the ball. It was embarrassing. They better be in training today and i hope Tilly/Brush are reading them the riot act. The third goal, well, a penalty!? You have got to be kidding. As a previous poster alludes to, he went down like a sack of ****, but to be honest, the 6 minute added time sign was the most annoying thing about that minute of play as we could have been there till 6am and not looked like scoring.

The subs?! Too late. How Grant stayed on!? Pass. How Barnard went off instead of Robinson?! Pass. NO-ONE played well and no-one can have a mark above 5 as it was that bad. Even Dervitte started needlessly hoofing the ball all over the place when he had plenty of time on the ball. Swindon were a good outfit, with HRK, McNamee, Tudor Jones, Cox, Morrison and Amankwaah. Them 6 alone, would get into a Southend first eleven. But the most annoying thing was that we gifted them the goals on a nice silver platter. They didn't even have to work for them.

Christ that was rubbish. Decent start but their goal seemed to suck all the belief out of us. Decision for the second penalty was scandalous.

At least the post-match ruby was good.

Shame that some of those names have been linked with us in the past but nothing ever came of it then other than the two 93 day loans for HRK...

We were also after Morrison mate. He's the fella on loan from Leicester who was at Cambridge!

James - were you there?! I thought i saw SBH at some services on the M4 but wasn't totally sure it was him. Im guessing it may have well been ...

I was, but, to my shame, was in the Swindon end! A friend who lives in Swindon 'sorted out the tickets' and it was only when we arrived that I learned I'd be sitting with them!

At least I didn't have anything to cheer about and potentially get me in trouble....

That explains it then! Like you said, we had **** all to cheer.
