Sussex travel club

With apologies for this plagiaristic (and extremely drunken) post, I claim no credit for the original idea but in the absence of any other posts on this topic...

Doing a bit of research I'm struggling to find local minibus hire firms that will do hire for less than 3 days - does anyone know of better deals? If we can find a firm who will offer hire at, say, £100 per day then we'll only need 6 or 7 fans (assuming petrol costs of 20 or 30 quid) to make home games viable. Sadly I can't offer to drive, but I'd be more than happy to propose that the designated driver on any given day has their travel costs subsidised (and doubtless bought a pint or two on subsequent trips).

For this to work we'll need a few fans who won't turn their backs on us WHEN (and not if) it turns out that we're pretty small fry by Championship standards. If you'd be willing to subscribe to such a scheme please indicate so in this thread.

If this takes off then there's no reason why away games can't be done to. For now I just want to get an idea of numbers, and people are more likely to consistently travel to home games than aways.

It seems like quite a big investment of money and trust for a bunch of guys who don't currently know each other to buy a minibus. If we can find enough people willing to commit to the full season it may well be economically viable though.

Yeah, it certainly might be a viable option in the future. When we had a couple of seasons of the ShrimperZone Travel Club, there were some initial musings about whether it would be cheaper to buy a mini-bus than keep hiring one. Good luck anyway. It's great that a bunch of fans can come together to do this. Now all I need to do is find someone with a plane ...

Thanks - it remains to be seen whether the initial enthusiasm amounts to anything though.

You probably already know this but Ryanair sometimes offer ludicrously cheap flights to and from Valencia. If you're not fussy about comfort then you could probably do an overnight stay here including match ticket and train travel to and from Stansted for under £100.

Ah! It's finding the time though. With most change-overs occuring at the weekend, I have to be here in Spain on Saturdays ...

I am still interested Sussex Shrimper if only from the standpoint that it seems silly if there are a number of us from Sussex travelling seperately to games: it was finding out that there were more Sussex Blues than I had realised that motivated my first post on here, so there must be others somewhere !

I've had a reply by e-mail as well, so as long as one of us can drive we can look into possibly arranging car shares and splitting petrol costs. I'll update this thread as and when I get more info.

From a personal point of view would be interested if we can find a mutual meeting point. Only really keen for aways as get a lift for every home game from another Blues fan who lives 2 mins from me but far up North aways and you can count me in.

Cheers DtS

No problem, thanks for taking the time to reply.

It looks as if a lot of the initial enthusiasm has died down, but there's still no reason why we can't look to arrange a few car shares for next season.

My fear is that it's going to be very difficult to get tickets for home games, and that almost all of the decent ones will go to ST holders. I'd hoped that if we could arrange something for the length of the season I might be able to buy a seaso and be confident of getting to enough games to make it worthwhile.

If anyone does drive to home games regularly and would like to have their petrol costs paid in exchange for lifts then please let me know.
