SUFC v Portsmouth

Bielzibubz

President
Considering Portsmouth are on the verge of signing Portugese midfielder Fernandes for £10m and the quality of the rest of the team this one is going to be THE game that gives an honest prediction of how we are likely to fair this season.
A lot has been said about the Portsmouth game but make no mistake, if Harry brings a full strength squad we will have a true indication of how our players are likely to cope with the likes of Brum/WBA/Sunderland etc etc.

It may only be a pre season friendly but I'm sure the lads will want to go out and show their worth against what is, or should be, undoubtedly a far superior team. Forget the Chelmsford and Wakering games. If you want a real indication of our abilities to cope with class strikers and experienced defenders in the CCC this is the game thats going to give it.

Can't wait! Just hope we don't get mullered and leak a hatfull.

it will be the only friendly i'll be seeing this year.

i hold a soft spot for pompey after just spending 4 years in that neck of the woods studying. but i can't wait to see us stuff pompey!

sufcintheprem my posts reads: jiggle jiggle jiggly jiggle

I am not sure on this as I don't know how seriously Pompy will take this game as for them they will still be 3 and a half weeks from the start of their season, and they will in effect be a couple of weeks behind us in terms of fitness, sharpness, and match preparation.

Please don't all get excited if we do OK.

I agree.

Although if I had read the rest of it, I might have pointed out that I don't really hold that much of a soft spot for Portsmouth as a whole or a football team in spite of spending 14 months there. Maybe the odd pub though...

Portsmouth should be an excellent test given that without D'Alessandro, as they now find themselves, that team may well have gone down.
