Well what can I say
We beat an average/poor Stoke side that we were expected to beat, by a single goal, a penalty at that
But there were so many good points
Hammell looks a star in the making, a great crosser of the ball, good defender and takes corners.
Daryl made some excellent saves, including a double point blank save which had me out of my seat. Controlled his area well, only coming out once to punch, collected the ball well
Freddie had a game of two halves, the first he was almost unplayable, he looked like a player not long for this league. His back to goal spin and crack shot that just went over was amazing. But mostly for the second half he kept drifting out of the game, and kept trying to pass/dithered rather than shot. Of course its only the first game of course, and he has now scored at three levels. Plus he was marked by 4-5 players at times after he scored
Paynter. Jesus. He looks like a tank. He'll be more impressive once he spends more time in the box as he tried too hard to be provider. One Stoke defender tried to pull his shirt and it looked comical, this not exactly small defender being dragged along by Paynter. Also drew a lot of fouls.
Barrett, again enthusiastic, committed rampaging up and down the field, some good stops, and a curious partnership with Spinner that I hadnt seen coming. Spinner bought his experience into play with his positioning but predictably we were caught for pace.
Which brings me to JCR. He does remind me as the same type of player as Cristiano Ronaldo. Exceptional pace and skill, yet cant quite finish it off, lots of cracking runs at defence, and one was out of this world, a sort of feint, loss of step, recovery and then shot off at a different angle. He did lose the ball a lot though, much to sighs of discontent from the crowd
Crowd was much improved, a good atmosphere, and seemingly more people joining in the chants. Could have murdered Brian Wheeler though in the second half with his continued 1-2's. He even got some boos
Scoreboard has us as Southeng :P
Got into the ground after a bottleneck outside the west stand but thats just first day teething troubles Im sure
Half time challenge looked hard, the car will rust before someone wins it. Theres a blonde cracker selling tickets as well
Talking of which, there seemed to be all new bluebelles and we seem to have a fuller figure one once again
Lastly I thought the officials had a good game
