stewards !

ive been at roots hall as a steward now for around 8 yrs on off and things have inevitably changed new managers new squad etc. but the 1 thing that hasnt is the hassle all the stewards get. this is a chance to put our sides accross. most of the stewards there are fans too some of us travel with the team to away matches. we sit in the rain for 2 n a half hours before and after people leave the ground. we try and help people as best we can, but we still get a hard time were just tryin to do a job we dont wanna c people gettin hurt ( apart from col u fans) we no sometimes in a game things get heated and people curse and swear im sure most of the staff there do to but when we ask u to try n keep it down its not coz were tryin to stop people doin there thing i dnt care who says what apart from maybe 1 word but the stewards there have to b seen to do these things.so next time a steward says somethin rather than swear at them could people just say yea no problem mate and just carry on watchin the game.i think it would really be appreciated.

yea some of them there are little jobs worths and they give the decent stewards a bad name. but thank you for the abuse in which i have become accustomed to i truely missed it this weekend.

To me, stewards are merely the instruments of the bourgeoisie with no greater a role in life than the shattering of the proletariat for their own pitiful ends. Come the revolution, all of you shall suffer.

i never understand why when a team scores the stewards automatically go over and pull them away. whats the points. health and safety. blah blah blah

i dont know why the stewards pull them away after a goal but how many bookings do we stop by doing it??? and yes it is a health and safety thing too. not that long ago there was a goal scored and every1 in there excitement rushed forward and pushing some one against one of the gates and knocked them out cold. what would of happened if the steward wasnt there??? like i said most of us love the club we work for and follow them around but we do still have a job to do.

No one likes the Stewards or does what they tell them... Untill something goes wrong and everyone says 'Why didnt the Stewards do something'

Its not the stewards doing their jobs which is the problem its the stewards not doing their jobs which cause issues. Prompting comments about over zealous stewarding etc because people have been getting away with things previously then someone comes along and does their job properly.

The Stewards are employed primarily to keep policing costs down. If the stewards were not employed then it would be very likely that the number of police inside the ground would increase. As they have one main difference to stewards (the power of arrest) what would people genuinely prefer ? (if some of the things shouted at football were shouted across the street to someone within ear shot of a police officer I am sure there would be some form of action)

That said a little more consistency and a bit of communication training (to defuse situations etc) would not go amiss.

lets not forget how rough the stewards were at the last game of the season against bristol. i saw normal fans getting very roughly tackled for no apparent reasons. that was well over the top! just won the league what do you expect fans to do!
