When you think of sporting brothers from West Yorkshire, you'd probably go for the Brownlee brothers but hailing from just three miles down the road from Dewsbury is another pair of brothers - the Madley brothers. Bobby Madley has already been promoted to the Select Group of Premiership referees and on Thursday we have Andy Madley from Ossett.
There are plenty who say Andy is the better referee of the two and that the wrong one was promoted.
He is in just his fourth season as a League referee and is highly rated with loads of Championship matches. He has been appointed to referee the Wembley Playoff final between Preston and Swindon; this represents exceptional progress.
His card count is just about as average as they come with 105 yellows and 3 reds (unusually the reds have all been home players) from 36 matches this season.
He is a referee who prefers a word with the players rather than a card and likes to stay out of things where possible. I wonder how that would have worked on Sunday !
This is the bit where I tell you about his previous Southend matches and it won't take long. Just last season's home defeat at the hands of AFC Wimbledon with two cautions apiece. Egan and Coker for us.
Assistant Referee Mark Dwyer from Castleford will be able to keep him company on the long journey down. The other Assistant has even further to travel, from Liverpool. Both assistants last officiated in Southend matches at Accrington, but not at the same match.
Fourth Official is League Referee Gary Sutton from Lincoln who made it back on to the League list after a demotion.
Elsewhere Nick Kinseley from Wickford has finally made it onto the League list for next season at the umpteenth time of asking. We probably won't see much of him at Roots Hall.
