Wignall leaves Dragons
From the archive, first published Thursday 24th Jan 2008.
WIVENHOE TOWN manager Richard Carter has said financial reasons were behind first-team coach Steve Wignall's departure from Broad Lane.
The Dragons announced yesterday that former Colchester United and Southend United manager Wignall's second spell at the club had ended and Carter said there was no bad feeling about the move.
He said it was solely because he had to balance his books and could not afford to keep Wignall on the coaching staff within the limited budget that he has.
"It is purely financial," said Carter. "I just couldn't accomodate Steve within the budget and I now have someone in the squad (Stuart Nethercott) capable of doing both jobs (playing and coaching).
"I still want to strengthen the squad and I have to move things around.
"It means I have had to place two contracted players on the transfer list."
