League Two - Notts County sack Thompson
Eurosport - Tue, 16 Oct 17:03:00 2007
Notts County have sacked their manager Steve Thompson after a disappointing start to the season.
The League Two strugglers have taken just 11 points from their first 11 games which leaves them 19th in the table.
Thompson was a controversial appointment in the summer of 2006, as he was seen as a failure while previously at the club as assistant manger to Colin Murphy in the mid-ninties.
Despite a promising start to last season, the Magpies would eventually only finish 13th.
Their poor start to this season has seen more and more fans call for Thompson's head, and they were particularly vocal last weekend as County slumped to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Bury.
Thompson's former assistant John Gannon will be in caretaker charge of the team for Saturday's League Two derby against local rivals Mansfield
