Steve Anthrobus

I recall seeing him play in game at Griffin Park against Oxford. We commented at the time that he was the worst (and dirtiest) player we had ever seen play in a professional game. He was absolutely atrocious and was lucky not to get sent off. Unsurprisingly, I think he was subbed.

His stats bear this out.
32 league goals in 246 appearances in a 15 year career is quite a remarkable record. First in being truly abysmal as a goal/game ratio for a striker. Second because someone who was immediately obvious to anyone watching to be completely rubbish has managed to stay continuously employed for such a long time and indeed to have played an incredible 28 games in the Premiership.

Surely there are plenty of defenders around with a better goal/game ratio.

Wimbledon paid £150,000 for him in 1990, would you believe!

IIRC we signed him on loan on the Friday only for him to be recalled hours later as wimbledon had found someone to buy him

A very early version of CM had him as a Southend player.

Figures alongside Tony Currie as shortest SUFC playing career..1 day 0 Games
at least Lee Chapman stayed a couple of daus, played and scored before being sold.

We tried to sign him permanently on at least three occasions.

IIRC we signed him midweek because I was on the coach to an away game somewhere and we were all talking about our new signing. When we arrived at the ground we'd found he signed for someone else.

What about David Roche, didn't he sign on the dotted line before an evening game and get arrested and hauled away during said game for shooting some guy in the knee!!
