Question Staying in London

The wife and I are off to the athletics on the 19th July at The Olympic Park in Stratford, a very rare trip without our boys.

We are thinking of having a few drinks, a meal and staying the night up in London.

Any recommendations on places to stay that aren’t going to cost an arm and a leg. Also, any decent bars or restaurants not too far away from the hotel would be handy too, although happy to tube hop if required.

Depends on your budget. Leonardo Royal Hotel by the Tower of London is pretty good and includes (or used to) use of the spa facilities

Failing that jump on an AirBnb. Plenty in London. Just make sure you filter by "Entire Home". Nothing worse than finding your lumped into some blokes spare room. Just make sure the person has been hosting for a while (2+ years) has a decent amount of reviews on that particular let and that its got plenty of good quality photos.

Something like below. The money you save by not staying in a hotel should pay for a decent meal out and breakfast the next day

Many years ago I stayed at Marlin serviced apartments on Queen St in the city - plenty of restaurants in the area and not far from Stratford either, was cheaper than a hotel.

Or even longer ago I stayed at the thistle at Katherine's Dock - it's no longer a thistle but good location next to the tower.

I like staying in the Canary Wharf area when doing a night up London. Loads of hotels for all budgets, bars, restaurants and things to do like Fairgame, which is great fun. Easy tube access as well. Great area to do a night.
