Starting line up on Tuesday

Although we should perhaps rest some certain players, after the last 2 years I'm sure we all really want to push on and win the blooming thing this year!

For me personally:

Griemink

Jupp
Prior (if fit)
Barrett
Wright

Campbell-Ryce
Maher
Smith
Cole

Eastwood
Gray

Subs: Flahavan, Lawson, Guttridge, Bentley, Wilson

My reasons!

It's obviously a chance to give Bart a run out to see how he does, if just to keep Flavs on his toes. I'd give Wright a chance at left back, because basically when are we ever going to be able to give Che a rest? Due to not signing another left back we might as well give a chance to Wright just to see what he can do when called upon. It'd be nice to see JCR and Cole both in the team at the same time and whilst Beno has done alright whilst he's been in the team, he does limit our width a lot. Although it'd be nice for Lawson to get another run out, perhaps we should just see if Freddy and Wayne can click back into gear up front.

Griemink

Jupp
Barrett
Edwards
Wilson

Gower (if fit enough, which he said he should be in the Echo)
Maher
Smith
Campbell-Ryce

Eastwood
Lawson

Subs: Hunt, Pettefer, Cole, Goater, Gray.

I'd give Griemink a go just to give Flavs a rest, he'd be straight back for Barnsley. I think Hunt could do with a rest too as he's played every game this season and we have a natural replacement in Jupp. Gower could do with a run out as he's just returned from injury and Campbell-Ryce deserves his first start too as so far hes only made 3 brief appearances and he's only on loan so we should take a chance like this to see him for 90 mins. I'd like to see Smithy start because he's been good whenever he's come on and Guttridge has worked his socks off every game this season so he probably could do with a rest. Up front I'd choose Eastwood and Lawson purely because they haven't started recently and it'd be nice to see what they're like together.

Flahavan

Hunt (i gather he weren't at his best today, but saved our skins against Forest)
Barrett
Spinner if fit, Eagle if not
Wilson/Wright

Campell-Ryce
Gutts
Smith
Gower

Eastwood
Lawson

Subs: Gray, Bart, Maher, Bentley, Cole

Hmm.

Griemink

Jupp
Prior
Barrett
Wilson

Gower (if fit, if not Cole)
Smith
Guttridge
JCR

Eastwood
Lawson

Subs: Flavs, Edwards, Hunt, Gray, Bentley

I'd like to see this

Flahavan

Hunt
Spinner
Barrett
Wilson

JCR
Smith
Maher
Cole

Eastwood
Gray

But I think it'll be this

Griemink

Jupp
Spinner
Barrett
Wilson

JCR
Smith
Maher
Pettefer

Eastwood
Lawson

Dont think ive ever said this before but I actualy hope we lose this game on tuesday because I think we should just concentrate on the league without the LDV which could possibly give us afew injuries down the line and would hurt us in the league, its a distraction and our squad is too small and if we get far again it'll just tire the players out and to be honest i couldnt care less about this competition but I do care about our league positition.

Trueist words spoken on this site this season. Play the friggin youth team tilly, we should not bother our first team with the LDV this year we need to focus on the league and only the league.

Trueist words? Surely that was not a statement of fact, just an opinion, so it can't be true or false.

I wont be upset if we go out, but it'll be nice to win and if we put a crap side out and get battered it's hardly gonna do much for team morale, is it?

Personally I want Southend to win every game they play.

I think....

Grimienk

jupp
prior
edwards
wilson

peterfer(dont no if hes fit) or gower or cole
bentley(as i think he will be forced out of first team soon)
smith(bentley holdin midfielder while smith gets forward)
JCR(should run rampant)

Eastwood
Lawson(so we can have another look at him)

subs:flahaven, hunt, gray, cole/gower, guttridge

Would like to see petts back if hes fit, a good chance for the reserves to get a run out and get back in the team, edwards should start instead of barett as barett has been in ever game so far so fairs fair

That wright guy isnt actualy signed for us is he? so he wouldnt even be able to play i guess?

Grimienk

Jupp
Spinner
Hunt
Wilson

JCR
Beano
Smithy
Petts or Gower

Eastwood
Lawson

Reckon rest a few legs but we still have the quality to win this game.

I'll assume neither of you went to Cardiff for the LDV final then...

Actually i attended both LDV finals so up yours buster.

I just feel we've gone past the LDV stage with our first team, although the revenue would be nice i think we can risk more than we can gain with this competition this year. I reckon we've got a superb team and that the league is the priority, maybe in some sort of way i'm being negative but i remember last season and the slump that happened after that cardiff final remember it is another 5 games!

Anyway, can't say I personally want us to go to Rushden and lose. Whatever team we put out, a defeat is a defeat. Added to that, with such a small squad there are going to be quite a few players out there on Tuesday who will play on Saturday against Barnsley, so it'd hardly be good preparation to be beaten by a team like Rushden who are really struggling.

He is signed up to youth forms, so yes he would be able to play, just as Lawson has been able to.

I'd definitely rest the senior citizens Goater and Edwards.

I'd be wary of changing the defence about too much, so I'd probably stick with the same keeper and only Prior (if fit) in for Edwards.

Jay Smith and JCR would benefit from a full 90 minutes, as Gower and Pettefer probably would (if fit) as well, so that could be our midfield. However given Rushden's physical approach and the fact that none of those 4 are fully match fit, I think we would struggle without Benno in there (he will also have a point to prove after Saturday's display) so he needs to play. I'd therefore go from left to right Pettefer, Smith, Bentley, JCR (with Gower to get 30 minutes).

Up front is a tricky one to call. I'm not sure if Lawson is physically strong enough to play against Rushden. If he was I'd play him and Freddy. I'd therefore go with Freddy and Wayne and tell them they are also playing together on Saturday to try and boost Wayne's confidence, which looked lacking last Saturday.

Flahavan
Hunt Prior Barrett Wilson
JCR Bentley Smith Pettefer
Eastwood Gray

Key players would therefore be able to get some rest, but the team should still know each other well enough to get a result.

The final is another 3 weeks later this season in mid-April so any slump will be short lived unlike last season.

Winning is a momentum and a mentality. It has been a major factor to our league form over the last 2 seasons. It's also been extremely important to the club coffers to ensure not only a better playing squad, but more importantly our survival.

And sticking to the thread my preferred line-up would be:

Flav

Jupp
Barratt
Edwards
Wilson

Campbell-Ryce
Maher
Smith
Cole

Eastwood
Gray/Lawson

im surprised reading thru this thread how many people want Hunt left out for one reason or another , I think he has played well this season and although i also rate Jupp i think Hunt is more athletic and offers more overall than Jupp
