Ok, applied last night and got my team through today, in VI 754. Bought a passable coach already. Any advice you experts can give me before I blow all my cash like I did last time?

Thanks

Look at your squad. Have you got any youngsters who have any particular strengths? If so, train that.

If not pick a training regime (I'd be inclined to say that training defence is the most lucrative), pick a formation that works with that regime (5-3-2 or 5-4-1), make sure you arrange friendlies as well as league matches, and start training.

In terms of trainees, I'd wait a couple of week until the ages re-set (when the new season starts). I'd then go for 17yo inadequates, who you can pick up pretty cheaply and who ought to be solid by the end of the season.

What else? Erm, decide whether or not you're going to invest in your youth team, and then invest in it; get 10 spokespersons, and build your stadium up after you've made your first big sale.

Think that's about it!

Matt

What does the 10 spokespersons do? MY squad is dross, so my trainees will probably be my first team next season, does that matter? Thanks for the age reset advice, as I was looking in the transfer market but wont now.

I'm gonna train PM

Muse,

Spokespeople just bring you in money that goes up as the season goes along. your probably better off not investing in the youth squad for a season or too so that you can put the dosh not spent towards trainees or adding to your stadium.

Yep, buy a solid coach before you do anything else.

Welcome back. If you'd waited a while you'd probably have got a new DIV7 team with 5 or 6 walkover opposition.

But instead I've got a s%&t team in a decent VI division, meh. At the time I didnt know it was expanding so yeah, once again I'm thick

Also, has anyone got any spare s%&te they can sell me, that could do a job in VI? Not too fussed about age, as I dont have the money for paying big.

That's my one problem with hattrick, the transfer market is so difficult coz of so many managers so purchasing a player isnt easy, although it's great for selling

how the hell do you make money in this game? I'm 9k in the black, and last time I played I never got out of debt once in it. I feel this is coz players cost a bomb all the time, so how do you make money and do well in t'league?

Pick a training regime, organise friendlies every week and train the maximum number of players you can. After a while they'll start popping in skills and you can sell at a vast profit.

The newbie guide at Hottrick is a good help.

You need trainable players though? I have 1 decent player who will be 20 when the new age thing happens, so that's not much use for my regime? Although I'm gonna train PM which will help him. How to make money to buy new trainees? And then to buy on the cheap? Seems too difficult.

At your newbie stage I'd recommend waiting for the new age thingy to tick over then look for 17yo passables, or if desperate inadequates with high TSI or bargain 18yo solids - if you are patient and occassionally log on early hours of the morning these do pop up. Set yourself a transfer limit per player and STICK to it.

For the time being keep a few of your best and youngest midfielders. Even though some might be 21,22,23 they might pop after a few weeks. Rome wasn't built in a day so buy and train what you can and fill in the rest when money becomes available.

It is only now, after the end of my second full season that I'm in any position to consider bidding for 17yo excellent (or above) trainees. I virtually spent the first season blowing money too quickly and expecting everyone to be trained quickly. Most of the second season I managed to start getting hold of 17/18 yo solid trainees and only towards the end of it managed to afford to aim my sights higher.

Patience young man !
