Standing or Sitting?

I know this question has been raised before but do you think we should have a choice of whether to stand or sit at football matches?

A new campaign is being launched to bring together fans of all clubs to encourage the government to look at having certain areas of grounds designated as standing areas, whereby you would be allowed to stand in front of your designated seat.

hopefully the above link leads to the groups website (which despite being started by a hamster) looks properly at both sides of the argument and the fact that some people like to sit and don't want people standing in front of them.

With the potential move to FF only a couple of seasons away do you think an area should be set aside for 'safe standing'?

If FF does have a 16-20000 capacity there should be no problem in finding a large area of the ground in which people could be allowed to stand. Obviously assuming that the authorities listen to the fans views.

ShrimperZone approached Ron Martin a couple of years ago about standing areas at Fossetts Farm and also pointed the Club in the direction of the FLA report into the Kombi seating system seen at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg : FLA Report. He told us that there would be no chance of such areas appearing in the new stadium ...

I know this is a thorny subject but I have a few points...

1). If you are designated a seat, it is not there to catch you if you topple backwards whilst standing and obscuring the views of others. Nor, is it for standing on! It is there to sit on & so everyone can view the game in comfort [well, maybe?].

2). You may of course stand in front of your seat at halftime, when cheering or encouraging your team, or telling "lino" what he can do with his flag [

]. At all other times, you will be causing a nuisance to the people behind you.

3). Standing areas, whilst great for the many [like myself] who enjoy the banter in the stands have a bigger downside than the atmosphere they generate. Safety for one! & I think that most clubs that DO NOT have a "standing" policy [IE: all seater], will not revert back to the old system of stands.

4). Not too sure about this point... but regarding new Stadia, I believe they have to be all seater to get a safety certificate or something along these lines... I haven't researched it, but suggest it is the case...! ANYONE?
