Standard of Refereeing

Generally speaking I think the referees have been spot on, very consistent and fair. A fair few red cards, but I think all have been justified. There have also been plenty of yellows and I fear a fair few suspensions will kick in later...

However, it was a little disappointing to see Rodriguez break this trend yesterday in the Ger vs Aus game. I can't see how Cahill's foul was that bad, and was followed by similar challenges which were not even given a yellow. I felt sorry for him as he left the field and apparently broke down in tears. I thought Aus were struggling but it was the final nail in their coffin.

I totally agree. Rodriguez avtually got a lot of stuff right in that game, but the Cahill decision was most harsh. So far, the refereeing has been fine, which is more than you can say for the standard of free kicks...

Typical biased reffing in favour of the Germans if you ask me. Got a lot wrong although the way the Germans were beating the Aussies' offside trap so easily, it's no wonder they were getting angry not realising that the lino was usually spot on. Cahill's sending off was an absolute joke. Can you appeal them in the WC?

I can't see how the Cahill challenge was a straight red. How that was considered violent conduct is beyond me

The Refereeing has be fairly good so far, I just wish the same could be said for the commentators and pudits knowledge of the "rules"

Usually that would have been a yellow card, but I reckon that the refs have been told to completely cut down on anything that looks dangerous and TBF Cahill didn't get near the ball and went straight into Schw ... (can't be bothered to even attempt to spell his name!) legs and could have injured him.

The ITV 'commentators' are so annoying! They can't even get the player's name right half the time.

Agree with everything said here, never a red!! The sending off in the Uruguay was interesting the first yellow was for kicking the ball away when the player clearly just threw it back to the rigth place, the second yellow could easily have been a straight red so i guess things even themselses out.
