Just read in the Echo, that Southend council are putting on St.georges day (sunday 24 th april)a celebration of that day, with bands, marching etc, also a fly past.
After reading often, rightly, that the English cannot-dont celebrate this day,i wonder how well it will be celebrated and how many people will turn up to watch the parade.....but i wont hold my breath.
We know about St.Pats day,etc...the Aussies do Australia day, when i was there it was quite big..the Germans have 3 rd October as Germanys main day...hope we make an effort
I will have a few beers here in Germany:happy:

Didn't want to hold it on St George's Day then ? (23rd April)

Firstly, the whole thing about people 'not being allowed' to celebrate St George's Day is fluent bollocks. I've never seen a credible story suggesting it has been banned

Secondly, I always make a point of going out for a few drinks on St George's Day and as it is a Saturday this year, me and my mates are going to....Southend-on-Sea. Beers down the seafront, bag of chips or ten, throw away a few coins down the arcades, should be great. And once the sun sets, back up to London to continue on our merry way.

I imagine there will be plenty of fat blokes wearing West Ham and Chelsea shirts.

1232 train from Fenchurch St.
1319 get off at Leigh-On-Sea. few beers and some lunch.
1519 train to Southend, few beers along the front.
1900 train back to London.

Looking forward to St George's Day.

will be going out here in Germany with my cousin Chris,i will be wearing my SPITFIRE t-shirt...have a good one

It's called El Dia de Sant Jordi here,of course. The (rather sexist) tradition is for men to buy their partner a rose and for the ladies to get their fella a book.

Was a bit miffed to shell out 10 euros for two roses,( a good female friend was coming round for dinner in the evening).Thought I'd done well out of the deal though, since my wife had bought me a Robert Graves paperback.Only for me to find out, (the next day), she'd bought it second-hand for 3.50 euros!
