Squad size

Southampton Shrimper

Team Eggheads
I know we have achieved an amazing feat just to get to where we are today bearing in mind the size of our squad, but is there not a risk that it might prevent us winning promotion?

I was thinking on Friday particularly about central defence - where we have been so strong this year with Adam, Spinner, Eagle and Efe - and now we only have one of those four still available. Lewis did quite a good job on Friday, but what if something was to happen to one of those two, who would we call on then?

Some people bemoaned Tilly's lack of substitutions again (yawn!), but he didn't really have that much to call on. Have we got enough to pull off the results in these last four games?

Having said that, of course I hope we just get the win against Barnsley and get it all sewn up!!

only 4 games and 7 points clear!!! no it won't. if its not automatic it takes 2 of the 3 to win 3 of last 4 games. if we win 1 they need to win all 4. it won't happen.
you heard it here first - southend are going up

We have only used 25 players this season.

When you think 2 of those have only played 5 minutes in total and a few others have played a handfull of games it is an amazing feat.  If we go up must have one of the smallest squads ever to go up to the Championship in recent history.  There were probably smaller squads in the days when there were no substitutes and players carried on with broken legs etc.

Huddersfield have done well using only 24 players as well.  Walsall have used 48 enough for 4 teams!!! No wonder they are in trouble.

had we had this situation earlier in the season, then yes, i believe it would affect our run in but as it is very late in the season i think we will be ok

Reading have only used 24 and look at them , nuff said!!

Credit must go to the backroom staff for the way most have stayed fully fit pretty much all year, and also the fact that our coaching has been professional enough to resist injuries too.
