Spread Eagle makes the Kent regional-version Sun

Napster

No ⭐
In Steve Howard's column today (one of the better writers in the paper), he talks about the England fans and mentions one "about the beer of the Spread Eagle, Southend"

So, own up - who went?

I haven't seen it yet, where is it? Perhaps i have a different edition to you!

I somehow doubt the Sun does regional variations. In the sports section, check his page and it's about halfway through the article.

I'm pretty certain that the Sun does do regional variations - I'm fairly certain they do a Scottish edition for example. I'd be surprised if they didn't have early and late editions as well.

Well the only report that's in mine by Steve Howard is the Match report from Last night. Paul, are you sure you are reading today's paper?:hilarious: :hilarious:

If you think Scotland is a different region then more fool you- last time I looked it was a different country.

I hardly think getting a paper in Kent at half 8 will be different from one picked up in Benfleet at half 7.

;)

Now try reading that report.

:thump:

OK, it's more of a page than a column, but it's still his personal viewpoint, a regular column if you like

You are indeed correct, they do regional variations on most football nights on sport and news sometimes but last night the variations would have been general apart from the sweaty socks game because no one in the south wants to read about there humungus result against the great faroe Island.

Cheers Winkle I thought Napster didn't know what he was talking about.

ps I think you do the sweaties a disservice. It wasn't just one island they beat, but the entire Faroe Islands. Without those extra sheep, Scotland might have won 3-0.

I've read the other replies to this, but I'm still going to say it.

Course they do you wally.

To answer your question the Spread Eagle Flag that is owned by myself
and was made when phil was the landlord of the Pub at the time.

The Flag was out there with Dave Holland and james and a few other
Southend Boys its was also out in Israel but did not get flown in the
stadium but had a outing on the beach while the lads enjoyed there
short time there ( still waiting to see the pics )

Due to its size im unable to show it at Roots Hall but after i get it
cleaned up it will be coming on away trips along with my other flag
which is dedicated to Paul Holland who ran Blues Away coaches who
sadly is not with us anymore

If anyone bought the Daily Mirror on Thursday (South Essex edition), they would have seen a large pic on the inside of the back page of England players celebrating aginst the backdrop of said flag.

Perhaps we could do a swap of Freddy (plus a few million cash and unlimited Ham & Pease Pudding stotties for life) for Michael Owen as apparently he only scores when he's in view of a Southend flag ....

I also recall the front page of the Sunday People last year which had the image of Mr. Eastwood scoring at Swansea and the headline "Freddie, Steady, Up! Southend Promoted!" next to a pic of Abi Titmuss, though I must admit my attention was drawn firstly to the latter. I doubt patrons of Kent or anywhere else saw that edition.
