Carson - 4 - Nightmare for the first goal. Looked shaky all night but did one quality save in the second half. It will take him a long time to get over this. Peter Bonnetti?

Richards - 5 - This guy is quality. However, didn't have his best game last night. Who did though?

Campbell & the Klingon - 5 a piece - Poor distribution, and were opened with ease by the Croats

Bridge - 4 - Absolute nightmare. I though it would be a blessing in disguise that he was playing ahead of Cashley last night coz he is a much better crosser of the ball. However, he had a mare, made two big mistakes that could have led to two more Croat goals.

SWP - 4 - Didn't do a lot, although England did not use his pace enough.

Barry - 4 - What happened to the cultured midfielder we've seen in previous England games?

Gerrard - 6 1st half 4 2nd half - He seemed the only one who looked like he could do something in the 1st half. Second half, shocking, gave the ball away so many times.

Lamplardy - 5 - Scored a good pen. Erm that was it! How the hell was he given man of the match?

Cole - 5 - Worked his socks off down that left hand side to no avail. Final delivery was poor though

Crouch - 7 - Worked really hard, won all the crap long balls played to him but no-one got close enough to him to take advantage. Well taken goal

Beckham - 6 - Great cross for Crouch goal. Didn't get enough of the ball on the rightside to have enough of an impact. The only player to clap the fans at the end

Defoe - 5 - Won the penalty which looked a bit soft. Didn't have a sniff in front of goal

Bent - 5 - Had our only chance in the last 15 mins but didn't take it. I'll say it again, our only chance created in the last 15 while 3-2 down.

Pitch - 3 - Awful. I've played on better Sunday League pitches than that. This did not help England's game, Croatia however seemed to cope with it fine. Shows how fcuking stupid the FA are for allowing Yank football to be played on this pitch a couple of weeks before one of Englands biggest games in recent years.

Ref - 7 - Didn't notice him which normally means he had a good game

Croatia - 8 - They are a good side. Great on the counter attack, opened us up with ease and pace. Deserved to win, deserve their chance to go to Euro's over us.

McClaren - 3 - He got it wrong. Not just last night, but throughout the campaign. To be fair to him, he has been unlucky with injuries, how much of a difference would Rooney have made last night? HUGE! Terry and Rio would have made us far more solid as well. I think he should have stayed with Robbo in goal, in a weird way he will probably gain confidence from last night. Carson's will be destroyed.

Any good news?

McClaren will be sacked this morning. (NEWSFLASH - Has been sacked!!!)
But then who do we get in? Redknapp? Alladyce? Mourinho (no chance that will happen)? SVEN? At least he got us through!

I'll save loads of money for not travelling to Austria and Switzerland next year.

not sure about gerrard with a 6, i didn't see him make a decent pass and his set pieces and crosses were terrible. felt sorry for carson, it was obvious he was bricking it and that is why he made that howler but that save in the 2nd half showed his class. lampard was anonomous and his pen was weak... SWP look our most threatening in the 1st half and it was a shame he had to come off for becks in a way. defoe was a headless chicken, bent almost scored with an amazing left-foot half volley.

worst performance from england i've ever seen, full stop

I think you've been a bit generous there, Spikey.

Carson - 1
Richards - 3
Campbell - 2
Lescott - 3
Bridge - 0
Barry - 3
Gerrard - 3
Lampard - 2
SWP - 3
Cole - 4
Crouch - 7

Beckham - 5
Defoe - 2
Bent - 0

Bit more like it...

Scott Carson 3. An absolute howler, from wheer there was no way back for him, despite a reflex save in the second half - or did the ball just hit him? Not his fault that McClaren picked him though is it?

Micah Richards 4. His worst game, by far, for England. Effected by the dismal displays around him?

Sol Campbell 4. Was a good player, in his day. His day has long gone, on this evidence.

Joleon "I am not an animal, I am a human being" Lescott 3. Was a Wolves player, looked a Wolves player. Abject, and not international quality. Again, is that his fault?

Wayne Bridge 2. Could have scored the best own goal by an England player last night, and was all-round dog-$hit.

Shaun Wright-Phillips 6. Despite me saying yesterday pre-game that he was basically rubbish, was one of the few bright sparks in the first half. However, should have tracked his man for gaol number 2, rather than wave at his dad in the TV gantry.

Frank Lampard 5. For holding his nerve for the penalty alone. He would have been destroyed by the crowd if he had missed that. Apart from the pen, showed absolutely nothing.

Gareth Barry 5. Uncharacteristically gave the ball away quite a lot last night in the first half, but was having to cover for the rubbish alongside him.

Steven "the absolute myth" Gerrard 0. Captain for the night, and gave the most embarrassing performance on British TV since Keith Chegwin hosted that nudist game show. When are people going to realise he is useless. Nopt one pass went to a man in a white shirt, constantly over-hit passes and free-kicks. As captain, he should have been lifting the players not sulking. I would have marked him a 1 or a 2, for turning up, until I saw his interview on TV last night, when he certainly came across as not giving a monkey's (sorry Kev!). Hope he never plays for England again - but we know whoever comes in will pick him, and we will have more of the same dross.

Joe Cole 5. OK in parts, but a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long. At least he showed some touches that the Croats would have been proud of.

Peter Crouch 8. The only player that could hold his head high this morning. Brilliant technique for the goal. Wish others had his attitude. Let down by the system in the first half.

Subs:
David Beckham 6. Great cross for the equaliser. At least showed passion, as always, but the legs are going. Hope he is not left high and dry on 99 caps, and whoeever comes in plays him at least once more - nobody deserves it more.

Jermain Defoe 4. He is rubbish, but its not his fault that there is nobody else seemingly available. Looks disinterested if truth be told.

Darren Bent 5. he is rubbish too, but nearly pulled off a great finish.

Incredibly generous mark for Shaun Campbell-Wryce-Phillips, who was at fault for the second goal, missed a glorious chance to equalise and did little else of note.

Defoe might be rubbish, but I take exception to your comment that he looked disinterested. I thought he looked like one of the few players who cared (probably because he warmed up next to Sir David Beckham, who would have had some words of motivation). He added some much needed urgency by chasing some lost causes and hassling defenders.

Spot on about Gerrard - I cannot begin to conjure up the words, let alone supress my mixture of disbelief and rage, as to how utterly abject he was last night.

My ratings:

Carson - 3, a rabbit in headlights... but that was hardly his fault. What a f***ing game to be picked for your competitive international debut.
Richards - 3, uncharateristically poor; his marking in particular was abject.
Campbell - 2, sliding 20-yd tackles seem to be the only thing left in his locker.
Lescott - 3, the odd decent clearance, but where was the marking?
Bridge - 0, utter, utter dogsh*t. How is this man an international?
Barry - 2, failed to pass to a team-mate and failed to track his man for the second goal.
Gerrard - 0. Must be dropped, now. No longer wants it, couldn't find a white shirt, negligible tackling, no goal threat. Let him play for Liverpool - it's all he's capable of doing, because the three lions cripple him, not lift him.
Lampard - 4. Showed balls for the pen, and looked like he sort of wanted it.
SWP - 4. Showed willing and created space with his pace and trickery, but then so does JCR. Where's the end product?
Cole - 4. Some skill on the ball and got into right-ish areas.
Crouch - 7. Energy, effort and a great goal.

Beckham - 5. A peach of a cross for Crouch's goal, but his legs have gone, haven't they?
Defoe - 4. Created panic for the pen, but again, he's not really international class, is he?
Bent - 1. How on earth is he an £18m player?

i'd have given both Lampard and Gerrard 3 for last night, yet again its shows they cannot play in the same England side.

Crouch was best player on the night with Beckham making a big difference when he came on.

Giving the whole team minus scores seems about right to me...
Though not sure Bent did enough to deserve a -0

The gutter press are below you Matt, probably why you don't know!

Plus I know for a fact at 19 he had designs on "deflowering" the 15 y/o cousin of somebody I went to uni with!

Do you really know for a fact, or do you know through hearsay and what a mate of a mate told you down the pub?

Do you really know for a fact, or do you know through hearsay and what a mate of a mate told you down the pub?

No, I know this for a fact! He was always sniffing around my mate (female) and her best mate from school when he just broke into the Spammers first team. When the 2 of them left to go to (different) universities, he turned his attentions on to my the sister of my mate's friend! If you were to ask FL do you remember Miss X from a certain road in Upminster he'd know who you were talking about!

Not hearsay at all!
