TV Highlights Southend v Yeovil

So, having seen that Jeacock wasn’t the last man, it wasn’t a clear goal scoring opportunity and should have been a yellow only

So nice to hear the officials being sent on their way at the end with what I believe was "Yeah, you run away you bald headed c****" and ""You're the worst referee I've ever seen". Shame it did'nt pick up some of the abuse hurled at that bell-end of a fourth official in his long black "specially for TV" coat.

Goal keeper handling the ball outside the area is a straight Red I believe, doesn't matter about last man etc.
“SENDING-OFF OFFENCES

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
  • denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a deliberate handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
  • denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a non-deliberate handball offence outside their own penalty area
  • denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
  • serious foul play
  • biting or spitting at someone
  • violent conduct
  • using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or action(s)
  • receiving a second caution in the same match
  • entering the video operation room (VOR)
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.

DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY (DOGSO)

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.), the offending player must be sent off.

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a deliberate handball offence, the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area).

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a non-deliberate handball offence and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned.

A player, sent-off player, substitute or substituted player who enters the field of play without the required referee's permission and interferes with play or an opponent and denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity is guilty of a sending-off offence.

The following must be considered:

  • distance between the offence and the goal
  • general direction of the play
  • likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
  • location and number of defenders”
The sending off only applies when denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

It was a red card offence for Jeacock. He denied a clear goalscoring opportunity. No argument there. Their goal, fluke or not, was a worldie so fair play to him.

Good referees don't just enforce the rules, they manage the game. Not just the players, but also the benches. And in that regard this ref was every bit as naive as our loanee goalkeeper.

@COSU, I completely understand that we need to stabilise the club and make it financially viable after the chaos of RM, but we also need to get out of this tinpot league asap. And never come back.

Was it a clear goal scoring opportunity?

I don’t understand the debate. Even if the ref was gender neutral it would have been panned for not giving a red card.

He may not of denied a goal but he certainly denied the forward an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
So it is red.
At the end of the day you can't allow keepers to come running out of goal pushing the ball away with their hands and just getting a yellow. They would be doing it every week.

Be interesting if you thought the same way if Yeovil keeper had done the same and ref gave him a straight red
Swings and roundabouts in the league, just when expectations are high and standards are lower, us fans clutch at anything to justify three points dropped x

Interesting that out of a 2 minute 42 second reel, nearly 20 seconds of "highlights" are the teams coming out
