Southend United want to sign Adam Thompson on permanent basis from Watford

Wasn't convinced when I saw him at Wycombe, looked very raw and inexperienced. Would be great to get him on a permanent deal though as he certainly has potential.

Was excellent against Millwall, even managed to outshine Prosser at the back, if he can put in a few more performances like that I'd love for him to stay here.

I somehow think there will be a lot of interest in Thomson if he becomes a free buy, that may rule us out, saying that if he wants to stay with us and is happy here then that must go in our favour eh.

Wasn't it Thompson who was pretty poor for Millwall's goal? Looks like on the highlights he went walkies.

Yes but at 21 he will continue to get better- and he is already very decent.
I like that PB seems to prefer young, fit and athletic players on the way up rather than those on the way down.
Average age of the side on Sat was probably under 25

Certainly need to factor in his age. Prosser has come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of seasons and Thompson may well do also.

Whether we have the luxury of patience is another thing, seems like a player worth having in the squad though.

Not many full internationals in League 2 so would be a real coup to get him. In my opinion I feel that he will personally want to be playing at least League 1 next season but would be very happy to stay at Southend on loan for the rest of the season, and if we go up - all the better.

personally I would not want him playing week in , week out at the moment. I am happy to accept that he has lots of potential but I see him as one for the future. re a full international, I thought he had only played for the U21's ?

I saw him as potential earlier in the season, quick thinking + speedy , assured on the ball. But he also got knocked off the ball too much for a centre back and was rightly dropped.

But now he's come back so much stronger + he has obviously been working on the strength + committment side of his game , similar to the skills that Super Luke Prosser has added to his game this season. I think Brown has worked wonders for both of these young players and turned them into very decent defenders. Would be very happy for Thompson to keep his place in the team + sign a long term contract with us.

For what its worth Adam Thompson was my man of the match v Millwall ....he was excellent + kept multi million pound striker with premiership quality Morison in his pocket all game.

He deserves to start v Plymouth so i hope we can sign him up double quick... I'm not convinced Mark Phillips is up to full speed yet either so makes Thompson an even more important signing.

This. You could see the potential, but needed to hit the gym. Came in to the game Saturday and won literally everything that came his way, apart from the goal which looked like he just lost concentration for a moment. Will be a very good player in years to come IMO.

Having seen the standard of Championship defenders on Saturday would be a real asset if we can keep him for the rest of the season.

I think he should be keeped with the club good young player 21. Good in the air and a good tackler to.Can play as well.

Yep, agree with this also. Phillips' age and proneness to injury means that we do need a good alternative. Would certainly hope we can extend his loan to the end of the season at the very least.

Wasn't keen on renewing Thompson's loan but strangely, as a permanent signing, I'm more keen. When he was starting as a centre half earlier in the season he got knocked about too much. But there's potential there, maybe as a centre half or maybe as a defensive midfielder. If we can get him signed up on the right wages, I'd say well done.
