After the foggy and eventually wasted Wednesday night trip to Lincolnshire we have our first home league game of 2025 against high flying Barnet. The Bees will have had a day extra to recover than us (from the journey not the 7-minutes of play!) as they travelled to Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday night when they drew 0-0 at the league leaders.

Barnet are currently in third place in the National League, only a point behind leaders FGR and are seemingly in a three-way scrap for automatic promotion with York the third member of the triumvirate.

Interestingly, although they’re undefeated over the last 6 league games, Dean Brennan’s side have not got as many points as we have over the same period, having only the single win.

They have a couple of familiar faces in their squad in Ben Coker and Zak Brunt who were both on the bench on Tuesday evening. Unlike us they have managed to sign a striker in January, in Lee Ndlovu. However like us they also had a goal scorer leave the building as Nick Kabamba has joined Bromley.

Kev chose to start loanee goalkeeper Nathan Harness at Boston, however although a couple of years older he has less experience than Collin so if our no.30 is fit and well enough to do so, then I would expect him to start (unless we sign Elliot Justham in the meantime!).

Kev had chosen Bonne to partner Kendal upfront on Wednesday and, inexplicably to most of us, Husin and Miley were preferred to James Morton again. Let’s see if he sticks with this for a home game.

So who would you choose to start against the high flying Bees, and what do you predict the result will be?

I watched the highlights of the FGR's v Barnet match and Barnet had a whole host of chances. They just can't seem to convert them at the moment.

Furthermore, they haven't won a game away from home since November 27th. They have just drawn a lot of games. However, they are on a 10 game unbeaten run.

This will be a really tough much with not a lot in the game, just like the away fixture. I think he'll select the same 11 that started last night.

Sales are surprisingly slow for such a local game and with Barnet up the top.

I also watched their managers post match interview and he said that, "Southend is a horrible place to go, Kev's teams come at you. They have a great side and will be in the playoffs at the end of the season." If only some fans thought the same a?

Tbf he doesn't watch us every week.

Barnet travel really poorly, as do almost all clubs at this level. I'd be surprised if they brought as many as 200 tbh, despite their lofty position. Only 1400 turned up at FGR for their top of the table clash with Barnet.

A crowd of around 6500+ against a champions elect.

I'd rather see York go up. A proper club with a decent fan base.

As for the game.

It will be a tight one. I'll go for a 2-2 draw.

It will be also be good to get back in the west stand

You say that Tommy, but managers have to watch content to plan for the opposition they are about to face. He would have seen more than enough of us.

He'll also notice that we've hardly lost recently and have been really good defensively. That isn't a nice proposition for an opposing manager and further cements his comments about us being horrible to come to.

Futhermore, managers aren't reactive like fans are. He'll look at our team and know it's good but certain things aren't quite clicking, it happens in football. He's experienced enough to look at that and think, "they'll get it right." As fans, we often don't do that.

Agree about York mate.

50% of their home attendance then 😁
Barnet fan in peace. I haven't worked out yet how to actually post a comment so it was easier to reply to any comment as at least it will get me up an running. Always Always loved the Southend v Barnet games since winning 2-0 at Roots Hall in 1993. As I said I'm here in peace looking forward to the game on Saturday but I will say I was at the game in August at The Hive and Southend fans were brilliant. It was embarrassing you guys and gals had more supporters in the ground than Barnet did. I'm not going to hide behind the we need to be back at Underhill brigade but we probably do. I thought you guys would be Play Offs minimum this season, it maybe be next season but when it clicks Southend will win this division and hopefully we will have already gone up by then ..

Fingers crossed your club can get themselves back to Barnet and hopefully see an uptick in crowds. Had some great memories visiting the old Underhill a few times and the Old Red Lion pub right next door that looks like it's been knocked down and houses built on the land 😢

Underhill was a cracking away day.

Sure there was a big pub called the beehive right outside. Big old boozer.
