If true to form, the games we should win, we lose .
So wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t win.
I think we've learnt by now that there are no easy or even 'should win' games in this crap league. Apart from their reverse at Eastleigh last Saturday, they had gone a series of six games without defeat........albeit five of those were draws! Note that one of those results was a 3-1 victory at Oldham. One where we'll have to grind out a result?

Yogi - I would hope we'll go at the 'Shots like a rat up a drainpipe/bat out of hell/sheeat off a shovel. You can't beat around the bush with teams that deserve the grip around the wind-pipe. As A.L. Tennyson once exclaimed, "Let's get into 'em!"

Hayes, Goodliffe, Golding, Ralph
Gsm, Husin, Morton, Bridge
=====Kaf------------
Bonne, Walker.
subs aansi , LCP, Wind, Coker, Kendall, Hopper Taylor,
Giving Taylor a well earnt night off along with Coker, putting Kaf in the AM position in front off the midfield, I think Kaf has earnt a start lets go at them from the beginning,, good looking bench * strong,

Not sure what side Kev will put out as you think you've cracked it and in come the changes.

I'd like to LCP and KAF get more game time. They made a big difference when they came on, on Saturday.

Husin and Coker where pretty ineffective and Bridge looks lost at times.

I'd also like to see hopper, Kendall and Bonne start together. They would be a real problem to any defence at this level.

Going for a 2-0 win infront of 6400 odd with 130 odd from Aldershot

Tonight is a good time to mix things up and show some attacking ability. KAF and Leon to start and Walker, Kendall and Bonne up front. Get two in front and then Kev can revert to Maher ball on 75 minutes..

Jokes aside, I really think KAF and Leon should get a start against this lot and play 3 up top and just throw caution to the wind and enjoy the game.

COYB

Coker was poor with the ball on Saturday, Noor a little better but not amazing. However our press was as good as I’ve seen it this season and caused a good footballing team some problems. Coker and Noor were a big part of this (alongside hopper and Kendall).

That’s why I can’t see a 2 on midfield and LCP as one of them just a few weeks on moving to full time.

Aldershot sound like a tough cookie to break down. Lots of draws.

I would keep the shape and go with Bonne and Kendall up front and start Leon in behind. Unlock the dirty bastards

Why surely?

Alder**** have earned some impressive results this season, as I mentioned earlier.

York, Gateshead, Altrincham, Oldham & Forest Green have all dropped points against them. We failed to break them down at their place too. Hey, The Shots even managed a decent result against your favourites, Fulham, recently :Winking:

On the flip side they’ve been beaten by relegation rivals Daggers, Wealdstone & Fylde, so if we’re classed as a Jekyll and Hyde team, **** knows what that makes them.

Nothing is a given in this league & on their respective days, anyone can beat anyone.
Surely because we normaly bear sides lower than us in the table.Incidentally Isaw rhe short highlights of the Shots against Fulham's under 21 side.BTW I wouldn't describe Fulham as my "favourites",though I'm happy to describe myself as a fan.

FWIW,I think you make a good point about the NL being pretty open though we really should win tonight's match,IMO.

Pleased - Southend United head coach Kevin Maher (Image: Daniel Hambury)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher will head into tonight’s clash with Aldershot Town believing his squad is the strongest it has been all season.

The Blues boss is again facing difficult decisions when selecting his starting line-up and substitutes.

But Maher is pleased to now have competition for places after starting the season short of options.

“We started the season behind,” said Maher.

“Whether or not people want to hear that or not, we did.

“We started behind in pre-season, then we had injuries and it’s so hard to sign people at the start of the season.

“You can pay over-inflated prices and there’s not the availability either.

“We’re always looking to improve but I think the squad is the best it’s been in terms of where it’s been this season.”

Maher is now able to call upon far stronger options off the bench.

And he felt that was key in coming back to draw 1-1 with Rochdale at Roots Hall on Saturday.

“We haven’t had a full squad for most of the season but we’ve got that now,” said Maher.

“We had three games in a week and now we’re going into a fourth so the squad is going to be used.

“Using subs at the right time is also important and something we weren’t able to do at the start of the season.

“We weren’t able to effect it off the bench and it gave us extra impetus to keep pushing to get something out the game on Saturday.”

The share of the spoils saw the Shrimpers move 10th in the National League standings.

But Maher is pleased to have brought in the right kind of players for the remainder of the campaign.

“Our job is to stay consistent and calm and make sure we bring in the right people at the right time,” said the Blues boss.

“We feel like we’ve been doing that but it’s not always easy.

“The consensus can be to just sign players but they’ve got to be the right ones.

“We feel like we’re building a squad again, not just for now but for the future as well.

“The more we win now the better it is of course and there’s still a long way to go this season.

“There are plenty of points to play for and we break things down into what we think we need from certain batches of games.”

The Shrimpers will be seeking another three points this evening.

And Maher says Blues will go into the game on a high after Saturday’s share of the spoils.

“The important thing was the performance was good,” said the Shrimpers chief.

“Go through all the stats and the metrics you’ve got and we were on top of everything against a good side who don’t concede much once they take the lead.

“It was important we came back and got something from the game and we could have won it with the chances we had.

“I’m pleased with the lads and we’ve come through pretty much unscathed which is important as well.”
