A tribute to David di Tommaso who died aged 26 years, a French defender who played for FC Utrecht.

I have my sources, these guys will be at the league match versus MK Dons BTW.

I'd be interested to know how this link established itself.

I don't for one second think it was anything to do with me but my mate spent a year as part of his degree studying at Utrech university & whilst there pulled this rather hot Dutch girl. Her & her best friend came over to England for New Year 1995/96 & we took them to Roots Hall for a very cold & dull 0-0 draw with Barnsley (I seem to remember). Despite the poor football fare, they were rather impressed, the South was packed and very noisy that day (this was only one of 2 times I've ever sat in the East) & they wouldn't let us leave without a trip to the club shop (long before the reign of Steve, shopspotters!!!) where they bought scarves & a shirt I seem to remember (the dodgy red/orange pinstripe thing). The presence of 2 hot Dutch girls also seemed to create a stir around us as people kept chatting to them at HT.

Upon my mate's return to the UK, he lost contact with Marijske, but I wonder, was this the seeds of the FC Utrecht/SUFC link up? ? ?

Nah, can't be.......

Well, I have to dissapoint you guys. I've visited FC Utrecht vs. Ajax with my girlfriend and some friends and we put up that flag. But there isn't a connection (yes, my girlfriend and I and a few Utrecht guys, but that's it).

But the SUFC flag was perfectly on Dutch TV!

I noticed there was a girl in the Greens yesterday wearing an Ajax shirt and scarf.

Loads of fans of other clubs payed their tribute. There were scarfs (or other things) of almost any Dutch and French professional club (the guy was French) and quite a few teams from other countries. When I was there I just didn't know what to say... it was so impressive!!!

In that case I think that there were 2 Ajax-girls at Roots Hall last Saturday. ;)

Are there any rumours about what caused the Utrecht player to die so suddenly?

It sounds like very similar symptoms to a number of deaths of amateur cyclists in continental Europe.

Nu dope or something like that (he just had a test and the result was negative).

It seems that he got a heart attack during his sleep. But how that happened... nobody knows.
