Well let's take the period up until the second goal went in first. Best performance of the season so far. The changes to the starting team didn't affect us adversely at all. Southend made Barnet look like utter mugs. The football was quick, innovative and attractive; the movement was top notch; the endeavour was second to none. Just ripped Barnet to shreds. It looked at that point as though a cricket score would be run up.

Now for the rest of the match. Dull. Poor. I don't know what the problem is with this team. They just sat back and stopped playing. I don't care if the game was won. Where isthe killer instinct? That will end up being the difference between us and the top teams in L2 this season. We are utterly incapable of putting teams to the sword. Barnet were the worst side I personally have seen all season. What wonders a 5 or 6 goal haul would have done for confidence. It was certainly possible if they had kept up he pace after the second goal. How hard would it really have been to have turned the screw after that 2nd goal?

Instead, the last thing i remember about that match is anither late consolation from the opposition because Southend put themselves under unnecessary pressure. Heading into the last 6 mins (2 + 4 added on) at 2-1, under the cosh and with Kabba and McLeod up front for he oppo isn't pretty. Once again we fail to keep a clean sheet. I just knew, as soon as that 2nd goal went in that we'd shut up shop. So predictable. Away i can understand. But not at home.

That will be our undoing this season. It really will. Dont get me wrong, a win is a win, and i'm happy with 3 points. But the lads were so good in the first 20 mins and i just can't understand why they can't keep the pressure on.

Sturrock MOM. Made both goals, ran his socks off, held up the ball and laid it off and won balls in the air. Good work.

Barnet were dire, but you can only beat what is in front of you and we should of had a hat full against them.

He would be if he told them to go out and put another 2 or 3 past them like they were capable of! We need all the goals we can get, improve the GD.

HE IS A GENIUS!
Automatic Promotion, said it from the beginning!!!!
EEE III EEE III EEE III OOO!

Should and could have been about 5 today, but ohwell, that's the way it goes, even Barcelona did it against Arsenal last week.

Fully agreed. If they have aspirations of playoffs, they need to stop taking the foot off the gas, putting themselves under unnecessary pressure and conceding needless consolation goals.

Great first 20mins. After that, pretty dire. Just for once I would like us to go for the jugular. Barnet were there for a 5 goal pasting. But we sat back for over an hour and did just enough to hold a poor team at bay. A better side would of got a result against us. 3 points at the end of the day. But we need to play for 90mins if we are to figure in the top 7.

Could have been 6 - 0. That would have made me 150 quid anyway.

The performance in the first 35 minutes was quality, and we've started playing football, and that's when we win games, when it's on the deck. YES!
We battled in the 2nd half, and as we probably had 4 changed to our first 11 we did well to be honest. Because Barnet have been good away from home of late.
They where definitely there for a few goals. But they didn't play that badly actually.

Sturrock absolutely quality again definitely MOTM. Just one time he played the ball out wide in the box to put Comminges? Through on goal but he scuffed it and it bobbled away from him, apart from that quality again.

Comminges played well as he hasn't played. Not sure what position he was playing in but he's definitely worth his place for the weekend anyway.

Everyone 7's pushing 8's and Blair 10 and an added point just to annoy some of you!

Auto promo! Cheers!

All in all...a great first 25 mins followed by a lacklustre 2nd half, but hey who cares. 3 more points, without Granty and Kane. I'll take that, ta

Evans 7 Did ok.
Clohessy 6.5 Still not at his best, but a solid player
Gilbert 6. Not even a solid player at his best.
Coughlan 7. Won countless headers. A good pro.
Barker 8. Works well with Coughlan. My MOTM
Sawyer 6.5 Too many clever flicks, but we know how good he can be..
Easton 7. Tidy tonight
Comminges 7. Ok. Kept is simple
Soares 6. No. Sorry. Still can't see what he adds to the side
Sturrock 7. Worked hard again. Spread the play well.
Hall 7 has been one of our most consistant lately, and did well again tonight.
Subs....Not much time

!

With the exception of Easton and Sturrock I'm failing to see anyone getting more than a six tonight. Blair and Easton 7's. BS may have edged it if he would only shoot. The rest of them were decidedly average including Hall, apart from the goal. Given that's a reasonably regular back four they looked very shaky tonight, fortunately not tested as much as they should have been.

I agree it would have been nice to get a 3rd and kill the game off, but I don't see how they can be criticised when we've just bagged another win. If we'd gone all out for 5-6 and picked up another couple of injuries everyone would have gone mad. 3pts and another home game on Saturday. Bring it on !

Thought a few of our players looked tired tonight.

Evans 6

Clohessy 6
Coughlan 7
Barker 8
Gilbert 6

Sawyer 6
Easton 7
Comingues 6

Hall 7
Soares 5
Sturrock 7

Thought Barker was an absolute rock at the back, Blair also played well but Soares was very poor again.

The Lino in front of the East stand was absolutely clueless. He missed so much in the second half it was actually unbelievable. Saying that i thought the ref himself was pretty decent.
