Blues are considering reporting Chesterfield to the Football League for the way they have handled their pursuit of Ryan Cresswell.

Wondering what Chesterfield could have done to get reported?

Hmmmm, I wonder if one of these League Rules/Regulations have been breached?

62 Approaches by Clubs
62.1 Clubs shall not directly or indirectly approach any Player whose name is on the Clubs List of players (as described in Regulation 66) of another Club except in accordance with Regulations 64 or 67.
62.2 Any Club wishing to obtain the services of a Player whose registration is open to transfer whilst under contract (as indicated on a Club's List of Players) must communicate any offer in writing (or if there is insufficient time, by telephone, confirmed in writing) to the Club holding the registration of such Player.

They seem dead set cressy wants to go there, even though he just wants to return north, where most of league two is..

sorry to disappoint you chesterfield fans, but odds are he would go somewhere else given the choice

Why would he?

Chesterfield is north after all.

Southend are basically annoyed that Chesterfield have offered £25k when it is common knowledge that York and Fleetwood have already had bids of £80k rejected.

They say Cresswell may have already been "tapped up" and that the offer is designed to unsettle the player.

Typical northerners. Just up your bid to 100k and he'll be yours. 25k is a ******* joke tbh.

Yeah because we are so squeaky clean. Wont happen.

It will give the football league a good laugh if nothing else. We probably haven't paid them their dues from Wembley ticket sales yet.

:hilarious:

Bottom line is although i dont want Cressy to leave, if they have only offered 25k when others have offered 80k then they are deluded. If im honest if we got offered around 80-90k again then i feel we should sell rather than have a potentially unhappy player on our books. Plus, we if anything from last night is to go by, he wont be a goalscoring defender this season, missed a couple of shockers yesterday!

The point is that he is still our player

Offer a price that is acceptable , and then you can have him....they can have their opinions on the bid, but until we accept it, its meaningless what they think

The thing about Cresswell is that he is the sort of 100% player that won't allow the fact the he wants to return North affect his performances. Given that he is under contract we have no reason to sell, because him being unhappy won't make a difference to the way he plays.

However, as I have said on other threads on this subject I don't really believe that he is homesick. I think he is using it as an excuse: he wants to leave because he doesn't see us making a strong promotion push this season. Maybe getting rid of Paul Sturrock has upset him too. What makes me say that? Well, the fact that after Brown had talked to Cresswell he was saying the Cressy will stay if we can convince him of our ambition by bringing in decent signings. If he truly wanted to move back North because he was homesick nothing we do on the playing front would make any difference.

Having read just the last page of the Chesterfield thread I had to laugh at their belief that we are conducting negotiations in the press. I guess from the outside that is probably what it looks like, but if they really knew how little the club give Chris Philips they wouldn't make that kind of statement. Blimey, he (and we) haven't even been told the length of Ben Coker's contract. Also, when was the last time we were involved in a transfer fee that wasn't "undisclosed"? I think we may have had one or two of those since RM took over!

I'd like to agree with you but having seen some of his performances in the latter half of the season I'm not sure.

Personally I didn't really see a drop off. Phil Brown also made him captain.

This may also be why PB hasn't named his captain yet...he wants Cresswell, but doesn't want to name him just for him to disappear and for someone else to know they were second choice.

Really ??

He was a shadow of his former self after the enforced break for suspension after an irresponsible sending off at the time we needed him most. I thought there was a massive "drop off" for whatever reasons.

Yes, I did too. Very noticeable. I would hope that some kind of incentive might be given, maybe if he plays his best for us until January he might be given permission for a loan move for the rest of the season with a view to a move? That way, it's in his own hands, play well and get the kind of move he wants, play badly and attract a poor offer next summer.

I think that's massively overly simplistic. As someone who does live and work several hundred miles from home I can assure you that it's nowhere near as easy as you're suggesting to separate the homesickness from the work issues. If things aren't brilliant at work or you begin to question whether or not its worth your while being so far from your friends and family then that feeds the desire to pack it in and head home.

Cresswell may well be willing to put up with living down south for another year if he can come out of it with a promotion on his CV. If he's playing for a mid-table side just looking to get through until next May then he may well question why he should bother.
