Southend Success

Not sure if this has been mentioned on SZ since Saturday and I know this is a football site but I think its' relevant. First of all a great result for the town's rugby union side who needed to win on Saturday to guarantee promotion and did 76-15 (now that's dealing with pressure!). A successful team has to be good for the area.

They will now be playing at the third tier of English rugby (mmnnn "third tier", sounds familiar) and I assume their facilities may need upgrading at Warners Bridge. Has it ever been muted that they could ground share with us when the new stadium eventaully becomes a reality?

Is anyone on here at all connected with the rugby club?

Yes I have family connections at the rugby club. A great result for them indeed at the weekend, for now, no thought of ground sharing.

They can develop there ground any more, they have tried about 15 times with the council, alot to do with the railway line as well i think.

I know there are taking about putting temporary stands behind each goals, like the col ewe ones.

I dont think a share would ever work, look at watfords pitch and wycombes never really in good nick, espcially over the winter, plus unless they got to league 1, i dont think there would be enough of a following.

I know many moons back they tried to purschase a bit of land between warners bridge and that huge house, just further on from the industrial turn off, but couldnt afford the development (only know this as my grandad is ex president, and 2 decades of my family run the bar over 15 year period)

Southend isn't a rugby town anyway. We'll struggle to get a decent crowd for the size of Fossetts Farm, let alone the rugby team having a go.

Congrats on their achievement though.

Yeah congrats to the boys me and my Dad saw them a couple of times this year and very impressive they are too, i think they will stay up next year in div 2
