Does anyone know when this shirt is from as I can't seem to find anything about it!!View attachment 4247

2002/03 season. Our 'main' away kit that year was sky blue, but given that the home kit was navy we must have needed this for when we played away to teams in royal blue.

Can't recall any specific games where it was worn, but I have tried to block a lot of that season from my mind.

Thanks very much - was it commercially available at the time? (club shop etc) as I don't think I have seen any others of this design.

What genius designed an away kit that clashed with our home kit!

Remember playing away at Burnley once where our home blue kit and away red kit both clashed, according to the referee and we had to wear Burnley's change kit!

I remember we had that sky blue kit away at Cambridge United the season we went up from Division Four under Tilly.

That 2002-03 Division Four table makes interesting reading.

Nine of the teams are no longer in the league, including the team that won the division.

Conversely, three of the other teams are in the Premier League, including Swansea City, who were one point away from being relegated out of the football league that season!

Indeed we did, green and black quarters. I think we lost 5-1 as well!

Yes, I always thought that was a smart shirt, but I never saw the point of us having an away kit the same colour (albeit different shade) as the home one.

Good shout with that 2004/05 campaign - would be a good case for When Saturday Comes' regular 'season in focus' feature. They pick a season at random and pick out stuff like teams who have moved the furthest since then. Hats off to the Swans.

Around that time we had a couple of 3rd kits that were never made commercially available. I remember another being worn at Posh once.

On that...remember the kits we had by 'Olympic Sports' in the 98/99 season? There was a white version of that template - worn away to Gills in the League Cup I think - with a red and black pattern, that I don't recall being sold.

It would be great to have something on SZ with a link to photos of all the home and away shirts we have played in over the years!

i remember playing bristol rovers at home and they brought their away kit which was all black with a yellow sash, so we had to wear our away kit. Also, at home to plymouth in the championship they brought their home kit, so again we had to wear our white away kit hahah!

Yes I do remember that now. Didn't we win the game very late on? Or perhaps that was a different open-air experience at Priestfield.

That would be one hell of a project - could be one to initiate in the summer when it is a bit quieter on here

I doubt you'd find a colour picture of the "beef and mustard" shirt - when was that? About 1920 I think (red and yellow hoops).
Personally I liked the one time we wore purple.

Plymouth play in green...n'est ce pas?

Plymouth play in green...n'est ce pas?

The year I am thinking of wasn't when we were in the Championship, but 2001/02. Plymouth had a very dark green kit (see here - http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Plymouth_Argyle/Plymouth_Argyle.htm) and against our navy there was a clear clash.

Interestingly though, the referee didn't seem to have a problem with it for the return fixture in April and both sides wore their home kits, but it was still quite difficult to tell the sides apart from a distance.

It was a bit dark! I remember refereeing a match at my local school. The first team had yellow shirts, blue shorts...the away team had yellow shirts, blue shorts! The shades of yellow were slightly different - v e r y slightly! But we played anyway, it wasn't easy at times. Had to smile though - one lad got a kick on the ankle and burst into tears!
