Southend Pier

Come on everybody, whilst voting for us to Win a Player, why not vote for Southend Pier as an icon of England

And yes, guilty as charged - twas I who nominated it.

In related news, I recived this little snippet in the daily Gambling News Bulletin:

Burnt pier still an attraction

Southend's pier has attracted over 3,500 visitors since it was partially re-opened in December. Almost 1,000 people visited the World's longest pier on Boxing Day, despite a large portion burning down in October.

Which is exactly why it's an icon - people go to visit even at the most unfashionable time of year.

Done.

Done, all change now, seems the football loving public have awoken...

Indeed - despite being a bit crap (and currently decidedly burnt) the pier is legendary and deserves the honour of being an icon!

Our pier is definitely an icon. Over the years it has had some turbulent times...a little like the Shrimpers really....built up, cut down, built up, cut down etc etc.. Lets hope this latest hiccup will see it rise once more and continue to the the great attraction it always has been.
