Southend museum space exhibition

So that's a no then?

You people sicken me. Wouldn't you like a chance to see the space shuttle or Apollo 11 command module (which I assume are out the back in the car park)?

Didn't even know there was one. What space legacy does Southend have?

Took the kids today.

There was a good model of an eagle spacecraft from Space 1999.

Would a 6 and 10 year old enjoy it? How much did it cost to get in?

Free entry and to be honest it would take 5
mins time to see everything in the exhibition but its great the museum try to put things on.

I went in the planetarium which was quite good if your kids are interested in the night sky.

Shame more local people don't do more to support things like this when it's free to get in.

Agreed, we went down recently to see their exhibition on shipwrecks in the Estuary which was a bit dissapointing - was hoping for loads on the doom-laden Montgomery that threatens to engulf us all, but it barely got a mention. Worth seeing though and good that they are looking at doing things like this. Limited space does restrict what they can display I think. Worth a visit.

What is there to support if it only takes 5 minutes to see it hardly seems worth it ?

I did drive past recently and saw loads of kids going in with sleeping bags so looked like some sort of sleepover event was going on there. My daughter did the same sort of thing, albeit at the london natural history museum sleeping in with the dinosaurs. Not sure the Southend museum has quite the same pull.

My children both went on school trips there while in the Juniors, the planetarium is well worth a visit. For those kids who have a constant diet of technology and cartoons, it probably would be worth only 5 minutes, but, for those who have an upbringing that doesn't rely solely on a screen of some kind, if you actually make the trip interesting, kids get far more out of it. Look at the exhibits and ask the children questions, if you show that YOU're interested, then they will be too. And our kids at school also did a sleep over at one of the London museums, I'm quite sure that the one at Southend would have been considerably cheaper!
