Southend Legends that you don't rate

Grids for me, alright some of you have pointed out one or two redeeming features but any footballer more worried about what his hair looks like rather than how he's playing must have something wrong with him!

Oh and he threw mud all over my dad at Luton years ago, surprise, surprise he missed an absolute sitter and proceeded to chuck loadsa stuff over my surprised dad.

Idiot.

That doesn't mean I don't admire his technique and his ability to score cracking goals WHEN he can be bothered. Hasn't forged a succesful partnership with anybody. Has an enfuriating habit of giving the ball away cheaply in the middle of the park and an even worse one of making less than a token stab at winning headers from drop or goalkicks.
damn Eastwood and his inability to head, damn...sh!t...pooh

oh 60 goals makes up for that i feel

That is exactly why he is a legend. Surely I'm not the only one to find that amusing?

Ah, Tony, you old tease. You bemoan Freddy's apparent devil-may-care attitude, and yet you fail to see that all too often throughout his Southend career, Kevin Maher has at times only given us 70% effort when he has set foot on the pitch.

It is when you witness games like Col Ewe away in the LDV - when Maher was immense, a midfield colossus - that you realise how infrequently he pulls out all the stops for Southend.

OK, so my "Overrated XI" would be:

Flahavan (pre-2005)

Poole Warren P. Whelan Wilson

Hutchings Maher [c] Marsh N. Jones

Bramble Belgrave

All legends in their own lunchtime, who more often than not delivered less than they promised, and less than they ought to have done. The only player in that XI who has redeemed himself recently is Darryl - who, since 2005, has really started to walk the walk as opposed to simply talk the talk. Before the L1 promotion season, though, he was more often bad than good IMHO - despite the adoration of the masses.

How about we play them against an underrated XI:

Margetson

Booty Broad L. Johnson Lapper

JCR D. Lee Gridelet Kightly

Carruthers Constantine

I suspect that the Overrated XI v. Underrated XI would actually be a pretty close encounter...
