Memory Lane Southend Kursaal / Southend United in the 1950s

What a great video. Last time I went to the Kursaal was to see Rod Stewart.
Technically the Faces on the night,:Winking2:, but yes, a great video, and I was there, (turned up without an ticket and the bloke in the ticket booth was reselling collected tickets, it must have been well over sold, incredible no one was hurt as far as I know), along with a few other concert nights, including Cockney Rebel where Steve Harley (R.I.P.) slagged off the acoustics, bless him!

I expected to see some landmark features from the old Kursaal Ground such as the large water chute behind one of the goals rather than the houses that we saw in the video clip.

Sang in a school choir in the Kursaal in the early sixties and used to know Graeme Douglas who played guitar with the Kursaal Flyers - er that's it I think

Graeme Douglas was my Chemistry(?) Science teacher at Belfairs Boys before he left to try and make a go of it with the Kursaal Flyers.
Well you learn something every day. I used to play in Chalkwell Park with him and his brother Andrew and they both went to Southend High as did I. I didn't know he was on the science side. He still plays a bit but has diabetes and that has made it a struggle
